Gantry5 / WP / Creating Widget Positions

    • I managed to create one Widget position in Appearance -> Widgets, but I can't remember how.

I know I can drop a "Widget" into the theme at "Theme name -> Layout" but you still have to configure the widget there.

If I could get the creation done at the Appearance -> Widgets level, it would be a time saver. I'm going to have a few layouts on this site, and don't want to have to configure the little things X number of times, once for each theme.

    • To further clarify what I'm looking for.

Suppose I have 3 different layouts. Each layout has a "Contact" and a "Copyright" widget. Instead of having to configure these sections 3 different times, I'd like to be able to take a "Position Widget" that already has the information in there, and drop it into place.

      Does this make sense?

    • Found it!

I read the directions over and over, and it finally made sense. If anyone runs into this in the future....

Open your theme -> layout and drop "widget position" where you want it. Rename it, and that will then appear your Widgets area.

When you want to use it in the future you simply drop "widget position" into place, and rename it to your exisiting widget name. That will then use the widget, and everything you have defined for that widget, in its place.
