using the -a -b -c widget positions- how to do it?

This is very easy to do on Joomla, but this is my first time using gantry in WP and I can't figure this out.
I am using Clarion with Gantry 4 so I don't have the drag and drop widget positions. I need to have three modules side by side in bottom-a bottom-b and bottom-c. All I can seem to do though is get them to all go into the Bottom widget position in which case they show up on top of each other instead of side by side.
How do I make a widget sit in -b or -c positions?
