Huge com_gantry/css folder

I am sure something is going wrong. My com_gantry/css/ folder contains 16753 files with a total of 350 MB diskspace :shock:
What to do now? Delete the entire folder and put it back with FTP with files extracted from a Gantry installer?
edit: it looks like cached files remain in this folder, even after they expire?
edit2: same problem in my Dominion template folder, also the CSS folder. This one is 1.2 GB
