    Need Gantry Core Javascript Unencoded

Posted 10 years 7 months ago
    • I'm working with a WordPress plugin developer who is having an impossible time (2 weeks worth) getting his plugin to function with Gantry.

Here is the last email I received:
As for the buttons disappearing, we are not able to fix it since the Gantry core javascript files are encoded - we can not see their code. You will need to get us an unencoded version or ask them why Gantry is doing this to the buttons. This plugin has been tested and used in hundreds of other theme frameworks and this issue only exists with Gantry.

I am having similar issues within the Wordpress Dashboard where the plugin buttons disappear when clicked or mouse-over.

I'm not asking for help resolving this issue - the plugin dev is more than happy to resolve them but he claims Gantry is so hard to work with he cannot continue without access to unencoded files.

I need this plugin to work - otherwise my recourse is to dump Gantry in favor of another framework that is more plugin friendly. I mention this because I've had several issues in the past with Gantry not playing friendly and I've had to switch theme frameworks to deliver a client Website.

Please see Links under the secure tab.

      Thanks.

    • Our JS files aren't ENCODED they're simply packed to conserve size, a common practice. To see the native code, go here JSUNPACK and enter the URL to the code or the actual packed code.

    • Hey Dan.

This guy is busting his butt trying to figure this out. His reply in regards to your suggestion was:
There are so many javascript files in their Gantry theme and I can not look at it one by one. Adding some custom css rules specifically for the theme seems to have fixed the issue.

Unfortunately after some testing we determined the CSS 'hacks' did not resolve the issues. Instead it created more issues.

Can you look at the link I sent and at least suggest a Gantry javascript file that may be causing the conflict? This would expedite things getting resolved correctly instead of hacking unrelated files all over the place.

You guys have access to all the resources and I'm stuck in the middle trying to deliver a working Website.

      EDIT

When you visit the page I linked to, be aware the dev has updated his files and this has modified the layout - as I mentioned he was forced to hack CSS to fix the disappearing buttons.

With the new update there is now a gear icon within the "Enter a Location" field. Clicking on this icon demonstrates the issues we are having - clicking anywhere else and the gear icon disappears.

      Here is the devs response:

The gear icon in the location field disappears only with the Gantry theme and we're really having a hard time why this happens. It may be better if you ask the developers why they have added this effect to dropdown buttons.

As I mentioned, this guy is going out of his way to hack/mod his plugin to work around Gantry. In my opinion this should not be necessary. I did a vanilla WP install and this guys plugin worked flawlessly. I then installed Gantry with no additional plugins and issues appeared immediately.

If you guys need some money, I'll gladly kick out a reasonable amount to get this resovled. That is how desperate I'm getting to deliver this client Website.

We're moderators here and not coders or programmers so this is beyond our or Rockettheme's TOS. If your pressed for time then just create a Premiere Support ticket.

    • I'm not so much pressed for time but almost $300 is wholly excessive just to be told, "Yeah, this is the file that needs to be modified."

Gantry is causing the conflict not the plugin - as I mentioned we determined the plugin works on several other frameworks/themes including the WP default.

And shame on me right, but if my client had not already signed off on the Gantry-based theme my decision would be a no brainer.

I had no idea your abilities were limited so thanks for the update.

    • I mean... Gantry and this plugin are in conflict it seems... it takes both entities to cause the conflict...

Gantry is GPL software and open to developers for private and commercial uses. There is a separate support forum, a Google Group, for developers.

      www.gantry-framework.org/support

EDIT: There is a also a good deal of documentation there that might assist: www.gantry-framework.org/documentation/joomla

Yes, Gantry is a large and powerful tool and contains lots of scripts... hopefully your developer was able to unpack them and locate the specific piece of code that your having issue with... the more specific you can be when posting there the more likely you are to get a response.

The Forums here are in direct support of templates and subscriptions around those templates and that's where the Mods focus. You can of course post anything here and other members may be able to help, but as Dan mentioned we are not developers and custom plugin development for use with Gantry is beyond the scope of support.

Best of luck, and if it's a plugin you're publishing to the larger WordPress community we'd of course love to hear about it in the Member Showcase when it's live :)

    • @ Matt - you referred to a Joomla link - this is a Wordpress Website.

@ Damir - renaming the file did not help. In fact I renamed the js folder and while I saw how it affected the Website this had no impact on the issue.

      Thanks.
