Pagination and Pagination Results Not Showing

Hi, I am experiencing an issue with pagination. The pagination and results both show on page 1 of the category listing for a particular category, but when going beyond the first page, the pagination disappears.
I have Show selected for both the pagination and pagination results in the menu item manager for this category, yet they still d not show.
I looked it up and it was suggested that it might be a template override? Very curious.
