    Gantry 5 / Gantry 4 conflicts?

Posted 9 years 6 months ago
    • Andy,

FYI, I spend almost 3 hours last night looking over the documentation for Gantry 5. It looks really good. I could not find a 'bundle' download, just the component and the template.

As it is a separate framework, then I am assuming you can install Gantry 5 framework / templates on a site that has the Gantry 4 framework installed with no conflicts for existing live sites. Am I correct? I installed it on a development site and it defaulted to the Gantry 5 Hydrogen template. I changed it back to my Gantry 4 template but the home page is still displaying the Hydrogen template, yet if you click to one of the menu options, it displays using the Gantry 4 template.

Just to let you know, on the http://gantry.org/blog page, that page is not responsive on Firefox 37.+ or IE 11.+ even though if you click the 'read more' button on one of the articles, the article display page is responsive. It is responsive on Chrome 42.+. The problem is the image used on the main blog page (the one of the 4 different views). It stays fixed at 1280 px even though the CSS shows max-width:100%;. You might want to check on that area. :)

    • Still learning G5 myself... since G5 is both an active component and a template manager I would think you'd want to disable the G5 component when toggling back to a G4 template... does disabling the component restore your homepage to the G4 template?

    • Matt,

You can't disable the component as it shows as 'Protected' and if you click the checkbox, then click 'Disable' it states "Edit state is not permitted.". So I unpublished the template and the home page now shows up withe the Gantry 4.0 template which is set as the 'Default'. If you set the Gantry 4 template as the default template, the Gantry 5 template and/or component should NOT override that setting for the home page. Another problem. The home page doesn't display as it did before I installed Gantry 5 template and component. The menu, showcase, feature sections on the home page are not showing. So I uninstalled all Gantry 5 installs and now I get a "Error: 404 - Component not found." So I uninstalled the Hydrogen template, clear the Joomla cache, browser cache, and refreshed my home page. No luck. However, once I navigated to another menu option and went back to the home page, it displays normally. :(

Ya'll need to work on that. :)

    • i think the problem is that when you install g5 it auto creates a menu and sets it as default

I reckon you need to change the default menu in your Menu Manager

    • Matt,

Resetting the default 'home' menu link fixed it. Thanks.

Just curious but why wasn't the Hydrogen menu uninstalled when I uninstalled the Hydrogen template?

FYI, if the Hydrogen template is uninstalled, the installation process should automatically reset the home default link. Now I know you're thinking, which other 'home' link. Well, I can't really tell you that but, at the very least, there should be a warning on uninstalling the Hydrogen template that the 'default' home link should be changed from the Hydrogen menu.

    • Unfortunately uninstalling templates in Joomla is broken and they do not allow us to run uninstall script to remove the menu we added before. I've already fixed 2 other bugs which should be in J! 3.4.2, but not had time to fix this one.

    • Matt,

No problem. It's RC-1 and there's bound to be a few hiccups to be discovered as more and more people start trying it out. I have total faith in the Gantry Development Team and Gantry 5 v1.0.0 will be as good as Gantry '1' v1.0.0.

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day...but it burned down in one while Nero fiddled. I hope none of the Development Team plays a fiddle! LOL

    • How do you switch back to the original main menu? I thought you could just check it in menu manager and select default, but I can't see that option anywhere?
