Error to save menu items settings

    • Nope, don't have debug on.

I was able to narrow down the issue though. I have a copy of my site running on Apache on an internal port and everything seems to work fine. I'm in the process of moving all my sites off of my existing IIS server onto the Apache one. I guess this means I'll need to kick it into high gear and get it done.

      Thanks

    • Hi people.
I´m working hard to learn Gantry configurations and I already published more than six sites using the Gantry framework.
What I realized is that I can not save a custom preset set to one (or more) custom menu items.
I think it loses its sense of autonomy by not having this option.
If I change the layout of each menu item separately, why can not save this custom configuration?
When I click the "Menu Items" in the setup of the gantry, the "Save as New Custom Presets" disappears ...
The facility to build the page layout to the default and only change some parameters in that it disappears, to save a custom preset, I have set all the parameters again and not just click the checkbox only for those who wish to modify (and save as a custom preset ).
Is there any chance that this issue is resolved in some future version of Gantry?

I also noticed that sometimes (usually in Chrome), I can not click on this button "Menu Items". He is disabled, no click.

Another case is a custom presets saved and when I apply to a specific menu item, the parameters are not changed. Continues with the settings of "default".

I have full access to server settings.
      Is there any permission issue??
Is there any solution to these problems?

As I'm working on a site that has many pages and a different template for each menu item, it´s VERY ACCURATE to fix this ASAP!

      thanks a lot!
      Ana

    • hi ana,

not sure i am really following, but let me try:

custom presets can be created using the default settings.
then you need to close the template parameters, then reopen them again.
after that the new presets can be applied to the different menu items.

if you are unable to save new presets, then that's most likely a permissions issue of the following file:
      ../templates/rt_name_j15/custom/presets.ini

if you are unable to assign any presets (any of the original ones or your custom presets) to specific menu items, then that's most likely a permissions issue of the following folder and the included files:
      ../templates/rt_name_j15/custom/menuitemparams/

      hope this helps, kat :)

    • I think I wanted to describe so many things that I could not express myself very well (as my English is not that much) :)
Anyway, my main question is in relation to custom presets.
      I'll try to explain better:
In fact, I do not want to create a custom preset from the beginning. I want to change the default preset that is already configured with some parameters and save as ...
Suppose you have a site with a base template common to some pages. I have a menu with 10 items that lead me to 10 areas of the site with content with some differences in layout. All these areas have the base layout of my preset default. Only need to create another 10 custom presets based on this default with minor modifications.
At the template configuration, select the menu item you want, change those parameters that are different from my default and SAVE these settings as a custom preset.
I see that if I create one from the Beginning, I can save and apply in a specific menu item. But if other custom presets that I need, requiring only a few changes, it makes sense I have to create another one from the Beginning.
In fact, I do not see what sense is because the custom preset save button does not appear when I am editing a custom menu item.
      That would solve this issue.
      thank you
      Ana

ps: it´s not a permission issue:
The parameter file /templates/rt_hybrid_j15/params.ini is writable!

all the presets you have in your site (default presets and the custom presets you have already created) can be selected under DEFAULT settings.
      for example...
there is a preset called preset1, which is selected as the default preset.
there is a preset called preset2, which is almost the preset that you want to use on your menu item called "contact" but with a different link color for example.
in the default settings you select preset2, then change the link color, then click "save custom preset as new" and call it ana1.
then you "CLOSE" the template parameters (do NOT use save or apply)...
then you reopen the template parameters...
then you click "MENU ITEMS" > "CONTACT"... and select the new preset ana1.
      then click SAVE or APPLY.
the default preset for your whole site will be preset1, the preset on the CONTACT page will be ana1.

now you have another page called ABOUT US...
you want to create a new custom preset which is very similar to ana1. you want to call it ana2.
here is how you do it:
      open your template parameters.
you will see that preset1 is the default preset.
under the DEFAULT settings you select ana1.
then you change the settings for ana1, for example you use a different link color, then click "save custom preset as new" and call it ana2.
then you "CLOSE" the template parameters (do NOT use save or apply)...
then you reopen the template parameters...
then you click "MENU ITEMS" > "ABOUT US"... and select the new preset ana2.
      then click SAVE or APPLY.
the default preset for your whole site will be preset1, the preset on the CONTACT page will be ana1, the preset on the ABOUT US page will be ana2.

you can do the same with all presets, THERE IS NO NEED TO CREATE THE ANA2 PRESET ON THE CONTACT PAGE THAT HAS ANA1 PRESET ASSIGNED TO IT. YOU CAN CREATE THE ANA2 PRESET ON THE DEFAULTS PAGE.

    • Hi Kat!

Thanks for your feedback and extensive explanation and I understood everything you said.
Actually, what I said is that it would be much easier to save a custom presets from a specific menu item, because I can select only the parameters I want to change (checkbox).
It is easier to view. So I commented that the save button the new preset is not enabled when we are in a specific menu.
Another thing I miss is an identifier when you click a Preset. I mean, when we click on a preset, there is no way of knowing which of them are changing.
For example, I'm changing the gantry admin settings custom03. The phone rings and I get distracted ... back to the times do not remember which one we were changing.
It's just detail, but the use of the tool is improved from feedbaks users, it gets my record here:
      1. enable the "save the new preset" INSIDE the editing custom menu
      2. put a handle when clicked on any preset so that it is always visible and we are sure that what preset we are changing in this moment.
In time, the Gantry is an excellent tool for sites that have extensive and diverse number of areas.

Thank you a lot, Kat! :)
      Ana
please look again, the files i mentioned and the file you mentioned are NOT the same.
      I really was cheated

    • Just to complement on the handle:
Let's say the site is still under initial creation of the layout. I have a 3-person team developing.
The team's first define some presets used on the site. How else will know what the preset used by first team manager is accessing the template, which is not indicated the preset default or any other?
      thanks

    • Hello Kat.
Sorry but I still have serious problems with this site I'm developing.
My first question is: is there limited number of presets?
      I´m using RT Hybrid template

I followed all your instructions and tips about permissions.
What happens: This site is very special because it is a great portal with its default preset as the main layout.
Within this portal, among others, I have a menu item subdivided into several links, each one of these links, leads me to a new area of the site with another default menu, new colors, etc ...

First. Inside the admin gantry default preset for example, I created a new layout selecting ALL the different parameters of my defaul and saved as a new custom preset. I left the admin without save or apply. I just saved the preset as a new and clicked the close button.

Returning to the admin Gantry, I selected my custom menu item and clicked on the preset that I just saved. Simply NOTHING HAPPENS. None of the parameters are modified from the default. At the same time, when I choose the existing presets (on Hybrid template demo site), these parameters are changed.

I've tried several ways to change the permissions (chmod -R 777) for the folders:
      /templates
      /components / com_gantry
      /administrator / components / com_gantry
      without success!

I do not know what else to do since this site MUST be online until January 27
if you need admin access, let me know.

      Thanks a lot!
      Ana
