- @tsiak: Have you tried clearing your Joomla cache?
  
  I had exactly the same problem, so I went to "Site -> Maintenance -> Clear Cache". Just clear every thing in there. For me, there were still some files left that would not delete; they were in GantryAdmin. If you have the same problem just SSH or FTP on to your server and delete the files from teh cahce folder of your main install.
  
  Once I had done that I could access the template settings again. Good luck.

- hi,
  i already cleaned all caches, joomla & gandry(through joomla control panel)
  i also clean joomla temp files,cache through ftp
  
  I did not clean gandry admin cache through ftp.
  where is it stored in order to delete it?

- I ended up disabling uninstalling "Advanced Module Manager" which fixed it.

- LIkewise this worked for me;
  I had two working versions of Joomla in folders on webspace - the old 1.7.4 & new 2.5.8 then when I moved all the new files to the parent directory the template manager wouldn't load - purging the cache solved the problem

  I needed to submit a "sample" site to a client and wanted it to run on my VPS (very fast) and not on my development shared hosting (VERY SLOW!) and when I moved it last night I freaked out!
