SOLVED - CSS Acting Very Bizarre - "Phantom CSS file"

Posted 11 years 7 months ago
    • I've been using Rockettheme for a while now and haven't run into this issue before.

Fresh install, first thing I did was I added a custom-css file to my template Kirigami. Made 1 edit to the CSS file and my page reflected that change. I then made a second edit to the same CSS file and nothing changed! Now it seems the CSS file is stuck so when I even just delete my first change it still shows its active.

I don't have any booster plugins on, i cleared my browser cache, joomla cache, gantry cache multiple times. Still stuck.

I renamed the css file to .css1 and the page kinda crashes so it does need to be there. But when I view the CSS in firebug i don't see any changes besides the very first one I made. I even used a different computer, still stuck.

While trying to debug it myself I turned Rokbooster on for the first time, this FIXED the problem and displayed all the CSS changes i made. But as soon as I turned booster off it went back to the very first spot it was stuck.

I even deleted everything, and did a second fresh re-install, still having issues.

Even having "www" in front of the domain changed the css but its acting like a second phantom file.

I can't figure out how there can be 2 hidden 'cached' rt_kirigami-custom.css files, one for with WWW and one without WWW. This also is the case with the templates main css files. I tried changing one and it saved the first change but wouldn't refresh any after that.

      Any help?

    • It's still caching it somewhere. Try this, in your Admin set the LESS compiler to OFF:

and then click the CLEAR CACHE button. These developmental settings come from -> Developing & Debugging LESS and CSS
Go to your JOOMLA_ROOT/cache folder and make sure there are no files there.
Clear your browser cache- reload and you should be fine.

    • Thank you DanG for the prompt response and taking a moment to reply. I came to that same conclusion but was hoping you guys might know something more. This template is Gantry 3, so it isn't using LESS.

      SOLUTION:
After more research I found that I had GoDaddy's Site Accelerator on which was affected the cache. Turning it off or putting it in developer mode seemed to fix it.

      Haha!

I just looked and you are right again, it is Gantry 4 (and Joomla 3.x) I'm using.. it's just the template right before you guys started incorporating LESS so it doesn't have that option to clear the LESS cache in the back end.
