SOLVED Gantry Template - Splitmenu - responsive menu shows only top level

I am using the free Gantry template and am having the same problem a few others have had with other templates.
I need to use Split Menu but when I do, the responsive menu only shows top level menus and I need it to show the child menus as well.

That's what a splitmenu is? level 1 in "normal" menu and levels 2 onwards in the split. So, if you click on your "girl scout cookies" menu item then you will see that page opens up with the sidebar showing level 2 onwards. From what you've said I think what you actually want is the "dropdown" menu not a split menu?
