SOLVED Conversion from Vermillion to Xenon

Posted 9 years 1 month ago
    • HI there,

I have downloaded, installed and converted (successfully) one vermillion template to xenon in G5, however in doing so I was pondering how do you convert pictures from the rokgallery to use within things like flexislide.

The rokgallery contains self fitting picture snippets in its own directory. Is there any way of using the old roksprocket slides etc within G5 or is a case of start again with flexislide and having to configure the picture size to the output?

Also, having created a new xenon layout, I duplicated and assigned it to a different menu but when I loaded it it did not seem to like it. Are there any particular things to look out for when duplicating an outline?

      Cheers

      My apologies,
I should have mentioned I am running a dev suite in windows 7 with the latest Bitnami/joomla which is an exact copy of our live site.

Congrats, although I beat you to the punch - I've modified a Requiem template to look EXACTLY like our Plethora template ;)

If the old site is up somewheres you can cheat. Flexslider is responsive but that still doesn't mean a portrait oriented image is going to look good in a Flexslider sized as landscape.
In your Xenon use an Inspection tool to get the dimensions of the Flexslider container.
Then in the old site create a RokGallery module with the slices set to 20% larger than your Flexslider dimensions. So grab those images and use them in Xenon.

So you have a layout in mind and you look at the Outlines that appear in the Template Manager and none are really close. You don't have to settle for LeastObjectionableOutline. Instead duplicate ANY outline then in the Layout Manager click the LOAD button and a modal window will open with a large selection of preset outlines for you to choose from.

Thanks dan for the prompt reply. Is it possible to "enlarge" the selection of preset outlines in anyway with G4 templates or do they all have to be skeletons created by Rocket for this purpose. ?

Also, still do not understand why I duplicated an existing outline within Xenon, renamed it to test 1, modded it, then saved it - mpublished it perfectly. Where my troubles started was that I took the "test 1" outline and duplicated that (calling it test 2), which it did but when I looked at it within the site it did not even have the common particles showing. All it had was the Top and the copyright particle. :(

I thought the idea was that having created one outline you could take that outline and mod any changes so that the bulk of the commonality would be there for the other pages. I am missing something. :)
      Cheers

      Okay the theory:

      - I create a Flexslider particle in showcase-a module position
      - in my Outline - Home_Positions I create in the Showcase section a module position particle as a placeholder for my showcase-a module
      - I view my Home page and the Flexslider looks good.

Pleased with that result I wish to use that Flexslider for my customized Outline - About Us menu page:

      - so I still have my Flexslider particle in showcase-a module position
      - in my Outline - About Us I create in the Showcase section a module position particle as a placeholder for my showcase-a module
      - I view my About Us page and NO Flexslider

The most common reason this happens is that when using the Joomla Module Manager edit screen you've assigned Flexslider particle to the Home page only. So even though your Gantry 5 setup is correct Joomla won't display that Flexslider particle until you also assign it to the About Us menu page.

Could this be happening to you?

Haven't heard from you in awhile.
Have you been able to resolve this issue or do you still require assistance?

    • HI Dan G,

I have managed to resole all issues now and have successfully converted most of the website on the dev machine.

The were a number of issues mainly me being a numpty (stupid).

I was using all the normal modules etc from the duplicated web and this then meant it was more complicated to "understand" if my methodology was right in order to check where I made a mistake.

So what I did I duplicated all modules before commencement etc and prefixed the titles. That way it was a breeze to use the templates / menus and positions as I wanted.

Sped up the whole conversion process.

Thanks again for you support; greatly appreciated
