SOLVED Custom CSS applied through old Gantry "Settings" Base Outline are invisible

Posted 8 years 8 months ago
    • Reposting this, as it was moved to Solved but this issue not addressed:

Before the "Settings" page was removed from the Base Outline in Gantry 5, my old process for adding site-wide CSS was:

      - Add custom CSS to CSS Atom Setting on Base Outline/Settings page
      - go to Base Outline/Page Settings page, drag and delete the Custom CSS atom, re-apply it, and Savee

Now that the "Settings" page has been removed, my custom CSS rules are still in play on the site, but there's nowhere to view oredit them. When I got to the Base Outline/Page Settings page, there's nothing in the Assets/CSS section showing.

Do you have any idea where I can find and edit these CSS rules? I'm afraid of adding more on the Base Outline in case it overwrites all of the current CSS being applied.

Login details added on the Secure tab...

    • 1. There is no need to create a custom CSS/js atom unless you really want your your own file naming convention. To create a custom CSS compatible with Gantry 5 please read this http://docs.gantry.org/gantry5/tutorials/adding-a-custom-style-sheet .

Remember to recompile CSS from base outline too.

      2. If you had any default setting for the atom before they will still be present. On page settings tab of base outline, when you drag the atom into the atom section (bottom of page) it will default to whatever your settings used to be (if you had any). Any atom settings that you might have had will not appear in the assets section - that is a different method.

      3. it look like you have a secret url for the admin area of your site as I just get a 404 with standard url - so I can't check.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Hi Mark,

I did not create a custom CSS atom. There is no secret URL for the admin - I edited the URL in the secure section with the /wp-admin section added to it. Please try again.

What I'm saying is that I originally added my custom CSS rules to the appropriate area on the old Base Outline/Settings page, then refreshed the CSS atom itself on the Base Outline/Page Settings and the rules were applied to all of the outlines. This was before update which cleans up outline inheritance.

My issue is that these CSS rules still exist somewhere in the Base Outline (most likely in the database?) and are applying correctly to the site, but there's nowhere to view or edit them (see screenshot on original post - nothing in the Assets/CSS section even though they exist somewhere).

In my case, I want to move them to their correct place on the Base Outline/Page Settings page and get them where I can view and edit them in the future.

    • Any ideas on the current location of these "disappearing" CSS rules?

Should I downgrade Gantry in order to view them or something?

    • Sorry for the delay on replying - I have been away on holiday.

Adding those atom settings to the old base outline > settings page would not have done anything in it's own right. You would then have need to add the atom to the atom section as well for them to be active. Also, as I said above, if you did add settings to the base outline > settings page then they will still be present when you drag the atom to the atom section on the "page settings" tab and then click on the settings "cog" for the atom - you will not have lost anything.

    • Well, for some reason, the Atoms section on the Page Settings tab wasn't showing for me before. I can now see the settings in that section. I don't know if I just didn't scroll down enough there since there's a big gap in that section or what, but I can see the settings now.

      Thanks for the help
