Thanks, I've managed to reproduce the scenario on my own local and have raised a bug ticket here
https://github.com/gantry/gantry5/issues/1617
- I am discussing this with the DEVS now.
Basically where it all goes wrong is being allowed in "load" an outline in the base outline. Once in this state it messes everything up and then the whole issues get's further exacerbated the more you continue (even if you think you have cleared the issues up).
So, I fear now that your site outline are now in a state that will be very difficult to recover from. As an example, you now can't inherit from base outline from any other outline.

In which case it makes a lot of sense for me to rename the template and install the up-to-date intastellar and then rename it back again to fix it. Thanks for the assistance, that is what I'll do. Trust me to create a bug
Ok, I'll mark this solved now then as you can track the issue resolution on github.

Perfect, thanks. Now I know how I caused the problem I will know how not to do it in the future. However, I beleive I have done this on another template also. I had written in Gitter but I guess nobody else was undertaking the same actions as me. Perhaps an update will save me some time on that project.
Thanks for finding this one for us That's a real beaut of an error
No one else had reported this issue and it's been there since inheritance was added to G5. I am sure you appreciate now that it's just not logical to have inheritance in the base outline (and in fact you can't add it manually) but this "LOAD" an outline option got around all the validation we had put in to prevent it... anyway we will plug the hole now
