SOLVED How can I tell if my site is slow because of me or the webhost

  • SOLVED How can I tell if my site is slow because of me or the webhost

Posted 8 years 6 months ago
    • I haven't been using Joomla for long, but most of my site is built with Rocket products and is currently running a Gantry 5 theme.

But my god is it slow, and I don't know if that's from my monkeying around with different products and approaches, or if its the host that is so slow. I'm starting to think its the host, because even the admin is torturous.

Is there some diagnostic I can run, or something I can do, to see if its something in my site/configuration that is causing the slowness?

      Thanks!

    • use the net console of firebug or one of the other dev tools to see what's taking the time.

    • By far, the slowest item seems to be templates\rt_callisto\custom\fonts

      Which comes back 404.

Is there something wrong with my Callisto install?

    • No, there's nothing wrong with Callisto. Are you using the latest version of Callisto?

Please would you post your URL, superuser id and pswd in the secure tab of your post and i'll have a look for you.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Ok so both Gantry 5 and your Callisto template are out of date. Please can you backup and then update both to the latest versions first... then I will look again.

    • I'd love to, except that one page says its out of date, and then when I go to actually update, it says there are no updates.

      Suggestions?

    • So, I re-uploaded the latest Gabntry 5 (which I'm pretty sure is the version that was there because the default templates were reporting ver 5.3.8 ) and the latest Callisto.

      Its like night and day.

I did remove some of the larger images from the front page gallery, but EVERYTHING is faster now. Could be faster still, I think. There may be other components I can remove because they are not in use anymore since moving to Gantry 5, but that is going to take some digging.

      Thoughts?

    • 1. You're not using any compressor (e.g. rokbooster). Rokbooster has to be tuned to your particular environment and extensions - this is not something we can do for you as part of this support forum. I encourage you to read the rokbooster documentation to learn how to add exclusions and change the many other settings in rokbooster. Once tuned rokbooster will speed up your site so it's worth the effort.

      2. You don't have Global configuration > cache "conservative" on?

      3. You don't have Global configuration > gzip on?

      4. Your image are quite large and are slowing things down (6MB of images).

      5. You are getting a large "waiting" time from your server (rokbooster may help with this).

      6. google analytics and facebook seem to be slowing your site down too... disable both of these, clear server and browser cache, then try again.

      Regards, Mark.
