SOLVED (New User) Basic Gantry install error WP

Regardless of which theme I choose, I keep getting errors with missing stylesheets.
I read that I should install the Gantry framework plugin prior to installing my theme, which I did. Or, at least I thought I did. The plugin shows as installed and active, yet I still get a text that says, "The active theme requires the Gantry Framework Plugin to be installed and active". I have tried installing the framework in the theme upload area, but I got an error that the style sheet was missing. No go.
What should I do? I can't move forward till I get this to install correctly.
This is a Wordpress install.
