SOLVED Impossible to update to Gantry 5.4.17 & sites down

- I went to my original template download. Then I downloaded the stand alone Gantry 5.4.17. Clear all caches and it worked!

Look for:
joomla-pkg_gantry5_v5.4.16.zip under 5.4.16.
I uninstalled 5.4.15 again and installed 5.4.16. Every page other than my homepage loaded.
After analyzing my error message, I was given a memory exhausted error. I then increased the "memory_limit" setting in my php.ini file. Everything now seems to be working as it should.
Though this should have never happened in the first place.

I just did a Gantry update from 5.4.13 to 5.4.17 without any issues, if anyone is still having any problems, please let us know and provide us with your site link and Joomla super admin details. -

Just a warning: never remove any Joomla extension/template from your installation if you have been using them.
This is because of you will loose all settings/data/modules associated to that extension if you uninstall it.
It is how Joomla installer works and there is really no way to uninstall stuff without loosing all the data while doing so.
If you have issues with some new version of the extension, the only way to fix the issue is to install it again or in some cases try older version. Trying older version is generally dangerous as well -- if the extension happens to update DB, you're screwed. Though with Gantry and its themes it is generally safe to do it because of how they were designed to work (they will usually prevent installation if any compatibility issues are detected).
I don't know why the Gantry update failed in such a way that it broke the site. We had some issues with the build server when we did the release, but the packages were not broken except for the wrong version number and slightly later the packages were temporarily missing until the packages were rebuilt, but either of those shouldn't break the existing installation. -
