SOLVED How to Assign Outline to EasyBlog Non-Menu Pages

  • SOLVED How to Assign Outline to EasyBlog Non-Menu Pages

    • I'm trying to figure out a way to assign an outline in Gantry 5 for Joomla to EasyBlog posts and other non-menu items. As far as I can see, Gantry 5 on Joomla only allows you to assign outlines to menu items. I could include the elements on the default outline, but I have some elements I want to include on single EasyBlog posts, without also including those in the default outline.

Since I can't create a menu item for each blog post (I'm working with a site with 100+ posts), I'm uncertain how to apply the outline correctly.

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks!

      Layne

    • That's always been how Joomla routes things... it needs a menu item.

You can create hidden menu items

      docs.joomla.org/How_to_control_module_di...le_with_no_menu_item

and you can use a Category Blog Layout menu item to effectively "mass-assign" every Article in a Category to single Menu Item... I'm unfamiliar with Easy Blog though and as to whether there's an Easy Blog Joomla Menu Item like that.

Lastly, you can use Module Position Particles to assign different elements (Joomla Modules) to different pages using a single Outline... so if you're able to assign Module Content to your Easyblog Items then you could use this approach for Module content at least.

    • Hmm. I was hoping that there would be some alternate way of targeting the posts themselves that I wasn't aware of.

Like you said, if you assign an outline to a Category Blog (EasyBlog has something similar), it would then have those specific particles for the category blog itself, but once you navigated to the individual blog posts, you would no longer be using that outline, and it would just default to the default outline, wouldn't it?

Also, I don't think it would work to add each blog post as its own menu item, even hidden, due to the sheer amount of them with how often I expect my client to be adding blog posts, which I would then have to add to the hidden menu, and assign to the outline.

In regards to assigning modules to specific pages with the Module-position particle, that still doesn't get me around the issue of not being able to target the posts themselves as a 'type'.

      Thanks for your help!

Nope, the Outline will cascade down to all the individual Articles contained within that Category.

It's just another way of thinking about how to get unique content onto an single Outline shared by multiple pages. No, it will not get you around Joomla's core principle of needing a Menu Item to route/target anything... this is no different in Gantry powered themes than it is with any other Joomla theme.

Oh really! I wasn't aware of that. That's good to know! Should be all I need then.

      Makes sense. =)
