SOLVED Issue updating from Gantry 5.5.4 to 5.5.6

  • SOLVED Issue updating from Gantry 5.5.4 to 5.5.6

Posted 3 years 5 months ago
    • Hello, I am repeatedly trying to update from Gantry 5.5.4 to 5.5.6 and it fails each time and I have to restore my site.

This is the error I get:

      Warning
Joomla\Filesystem\File::delete: Failed deleting inaccessible file composer.json
Package Update: There was an error installing an extension: lib_gantry5_v5.5.6.zip
Before updating ensure that the update is compatible with your Joomla! installation.
You are strongly advised to make a backup of your installation before you start updating.

I try to then remove Gantry and it gives the same Delete failed error.

If I restore a backup and then try to uninstall Gantry prior to doing the update, same error.

      Please advise. Thank you.

    • It sounds like a permissions issue, so check the file/folder contingency that file. Skidoo check file ownership, also check mod_security rules (security log).

Please post url, superuser ID and password in the secure tab of your reply and I will look for you.

      Please price ftp login too.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Never delete extensions that you use in Joomla; Joomla generally tries to remove everything that is using the extension, including your modules etc.

I checked the file and it looks fine (it uses the same permissions as the rest of the files). So I'm not sure why Joomla has no access to it. So the issue seems to be related to the permissions somehow.

Maybe make a test site so we can dig further. The site will likely break during the update process and it would be better if fixing was first attempted in some safe location.
    • Gantry 5, enjoy!

    • Thanks.

I did a clone and restore to a dev site and the update went through without issue. I then ported over my domains and SSL And will just run with that. Very odd. Not sure what went wrong with the other install.

Thanks for the suggestion. All good now.

    • Thank you for letting us know - so that does confirm that it wass a server configuration matter - i.e permissions or owner/group or mod_security.
