Setting default outline in G5

- I am very confused as to how to set a truly default outline in Joomla G5. It seems the base outline begins as default, even though it is not marked so in the outline manager. Just for fun, I assigned all pages to an outline. That outline was then the first one marked as default. I then unassigned all those pages and assigned just one menu item to the page. However, it was still marked as default. What is going on?

The base outline is where most other outlines will inherit their settings from (e.g. styles, page settings etc). These can however overridden in each other outline (and therefore be a specific change for that outline). The layout is not inherited in an outline unless specifically told to do so in an outline (this can include inheriting from base outline).
The default outline(template) (the one marked with a "star" in template manager - not just the one name as "default") is the outline that will be used by all menu items unless there is another outline specifically assigned to that menu item.

My other post was not a duplicate, it was about how to set a default outline in Wordpress. This one was for Joomla. In case, you didn't realize it, they are very different. Please uncheck the duplicate label in my Wordpress post, answer the question for others, as it is not adequately documented and the answer is very different from the Joomla answer.
If you don't know the answer, as apparently you don't, please read the replies to my github post. The github post (I am a G5 contributor) was about issues with the WP default outline implementation and is also not a duplicate. Yes they are different and I can only assume then that you knew that at the time then and that's why you raised the question in three different places. So I do apologise if my reply offended you. My intention is to make the best use of RT resources, your post in three different places will require three separate people where perhaps one would have done.
