Retrieving articles bound to multiple categories

First of all: this question is related the CW Multicats extension. Our client is relying heavily on this extensions and pretty much every article is added to several categories. When using a custom particle that retrieves these articles we notice, not to our suprise, that no articles are being retrieved. Mostly because it is the thrid category where the article is bound on.
Now comes the part where we need to find a way to be able to retrieve these categories as well. Does someone have any experience on doing this? Should we be looking at custom function or some sort?

- I've searched a bit further I came across a page where the developer of the extension says that the G5 platform needs some simple adjustments in order to be able to work with the multicats. Send out a ticket and see what happens...

We can't really help with your custom development for a third-party extension but the relevant documentation for retrieving content from the CMS within a particle can be found here http://docs.gantry.org/gantry5/advanced/content-in-particles though I suspect that you may also need to develope other PHP classes to call from TWIG too http://docs.gantry.org/gantry5/advanced/php-functions .

Noted about the reply, thanks!
Fully aware of the fact that support for third party extensions is very limited. Creating a new function would be possible. On the other hand I'm looking into the possibilities of retrieving articles based on Joomla "tags". Is that something that is supported by default in G5 and can be used in particles?

No, tags are not supported by default when retrieving Joomla CMS content. In fact, it's an outstanding feature request
