All of my Rocket Theme 4 websites are down - showing:
Failed to load 'rt_ .... ' template: Please install Gantry 5 Framework!
I tried to install the latest version of 5.5.16; however I'm gettinug an error on updating.
Install path does not exist.
Package Update: There was an error installing an extension: plg_system_gantry5_v5.5.15.zip
I reinstalled Gantry 5.5.15 and all my sites came back online. It was the 5.5.16 update which broke the sites.

I have same problem.
When doing an update from 5.5.15 to 5.5.16, I get the following message:
Install path does not exist.
Package Update: There was an error installing an extension: pig_system_gantry5_v5.5.15.zip
Error installing package
Note that the messages refers to 5.5.15 plugin even though I am installing 5.5.16

I have the same issue. I then logged in and noticed that all of the Gantry 5 plugins had been disabled. The version also still shows 5.1.15. I enabed them so the 2 sites now work. Probably be an update today for this.

Please note that by the other member answering your post it took you out of the MODS "unanswered posts" queue and you therefore had to wait longer for an RT response.
Download the G5.5.16 release again (from releases) and install that and you should be ok. https://github.com/gantry/gantry5/releases
