WordPress vs. Joomla

Greetings!
I have been a member but not posted to this forum before. I have long been developing sites in WordPress. I am considering creating my next site in Joomla as I am told by various sources that Joomla provides a more robust platform for development.
In truth, on the surface they seem similar, though Joomla seems much less user friendly on first blush. Can someone tell me the key advantages to Joomla over WordPress? Starting work in Joomla will require time for my team to get up to speed and I need to balance that against other, paying work.
