    anyone having text editor issues?

Posted 14 years 9 months ago
    • Don't know if it's the newer template/css offerings, the latest patches to joomla or what. I do know that several sites I've developed and published this year are giving me hell with the rich text editor behaviour. I'm encountering it now with Panacea. I've encountered it with several other RT releases this year in fact. I'm encountering it whether it's a new install via RocketLauncher or an install over an existing site (sometime requiring the framework bundle, sometimes not). The editors just behave erratically. Doesn't matter whether I'm using TinyMCE or the latest JCE. I might backspace to delete a line break in order to add a paragraph break and entirely different lines of text if effected or random formatting is applied to text when it shouldn't be. I've even had issues placing images in one site (though it used RT Dominion).

The issue doesn't occur with RokPad but we can't roll out a site with RokPad to a client/layperson. They need WYSIWYG ease of use but we can't deliver janky, quirky management tools.

Any idea why this is a recurring issue and how I might resolve it so that the richtext editors behave as they should? Any help would be appreciated.

    • I'm pretty sure that's not it because it occurs on sites on which i haven't upgraded the joomla installation too. but if there's anyway i can troubleshoot to verify this... anyway to fix... I'm open. It's just weird.

no chance it's related to the gantry framework. just tried sites I have that are running RT Moxy, RT Affinity, and an old Gavick theme and it doesn't occur. It occurs on a site running RT Panacea and 2 others running RT Dominion. For example, I have clean messaging (code view shows just 4 paragraphs with all between paragraph tags and no additional formatting). From WYSIWYG view, placing my curser to the left of the 1st character in a paragraph and pressing delete, funky coding is inserted and the text takes on new formatting that has to be cleaned up in HTML view and it continues to behave pretty erratically if changed again using the rich text editors (Tiny MCE and JCE).

    • Still testing but I think I've learned that with the latest RT templates (January 2010 onward), you have to visit the TinyMCE 2.0 plugin parameters and change "Template CSS classes" from it's default setting of 'yes' to 'no'.

Still testing and I'll need to figure if there's a similar fix for Joomla Content Editor (JCE).

    • okay, so that helped with TinyMCE in Panacea and not with JCE. Doesn't seem to work with my RT Dominion installation at all but I'll try another Dominion installation I have running. We'll see.

    • I am having terrible issues in All new installs of all RT the editors simply do not function in any way that we need them too. The text remains plain and I cannot add line breaks either in HTML or wysiwyg - the only place that the text editor seems to work correctly is if I publish all articles as modules. all spacing is then correct - see here.... www.wademacdonaldblog.com - you will see that the front page items are modules and the news items are plain text with NO formatting as the editor - what ever I use, will not accept line breaks paras or divs, help - this is not a good thing....

    • your issues seem to be even worse than what I've encountered. I am able to turn the editor off and use html. i'm also able to use Rokpad with no problems. Neither of these options are acceptable for passing along to a client though. It's a CMS so they shouldn't be required to learn HTML.

I haven't fully resolved the issues. I found some helpful workarounds but never got any response from RT as to why the text editor (TinyMCE & JCE) problems are so prevalent with its 2010 Joomla templates.

    • I've been running into problems but more based on browser. Tiny MCE in Joomla form just does not work many times with some template using Google Chrome. IE is still pretty good, Firefox is still pretty good. Was thinking I'd run into the same Chrome/Tiny MCE on Wordpress builds but not yet, anyone else?

Found a similar issue with Panacea + mmPortfolio + TinyMCE with Chrome. TinyMCE appears to be working ok though in Firefox.
