    Assign modules to an article

Posted 14 years 10 months ago
    • Hello, I have a problem.

I'd like to know how to assign a module to a specific, single article layout, even if there is no specific menu link to that article.

There must be a way to do this.

I have an image in my frontpage and when people click that, they get redirected to the article about that product. However, as there is no menu link defined (I do not want to see the link in the menu bar for this article) I cannot understand how to assign it specific modules.

      Please, help! :)

    • mmm it seems it is not my case, I tried and it did not work for me.
Maybe I was not clear enough.

Anyway, this is what I did following your scheme:

I created the category "module articles"
I created the article "product A"
I created the category list menu item in the main menu, calling it "Menu Button 1".

Then I navigated through the Menu Button 1 and took the link to the article "product A".
I created a custom module named "product A highlights", which I want to be displayed on the right of the article "product A" even if there is no menu link (this is the problem), and I assigned it to the "Menu Button 1" previously created.
I unpublished the Menu Button 1 in the mainmenu (I do not want the menu for these articles to be seen, as said).
I copied the link inside the content where I want to have the link to my article with custom modules.
Anyhow, when I click on the link I get redirected to the article "product A", but the custom module "product A highlights" on the right is not displayed, surely because I had to unpublish the "Menu Button 1" to which I assigned it.

So, sorry if I repeat the question again, is there a way to assign custom modules to an article without having a menu link available?

Sorry if I misunderstood something in the process....
      Thanks!

    • You could try creating an uncategorized Article and the create a link to it when you create the Custom HTML Module.

If you use JCE (Joomla Content Editor) it has a linking feature that allows you to browse to a specific Article, even if it is not assigned to a Menu, Section, or Category.

    • JEM, maybe I've misunderstood your answer, but I am not trying to "link" a module to an article.
I just would like to be able to assign modules to articles which do not have any menu link published, so that they will be displayed just in that page.

I cannot understand why Joomla seems not to permit this, it could be very useful and it could be solved with a sort of "hidden" menu which is "published" but cannot be seen.

Anyone can help me with this?
