Module positioning woes and Advanced Module Manager

Posted 14 years 10 months ago
    • Hello,

after running a joomla 1.1 based community site for 3 years i am now in the process of upgrading it. I created a new site using joomla 1.5, the somaxion template, jomsocial replacing the community builder from the old site, phpbb and menalto gallery.

After everything working fine i am now starting to get problems. One of those problems is that when i click the "read more" article link from the main page of the site (frontpage component in view blog-layout mode) my menues in the "sidebar" position disapear.

In Joomla 1.1 i could have coped with this using the "unnassigned" option in the "Menu Item Menu" within a modules configuration, but 1.5 funilly doesnt has this option. So far i couldnt find anything which could replace this functionality. As the wise joomla-developer-folks surely wouldnt be so foolish to remove such an option without supplyieng a another way to cope with this problem i am sure i must have overlooked some kind of new concept?!

So. could someone please point out what i did overlook? How can i have my modules for the main/home menu still display in the sidebar while someone is reading my frontpage articles?

The only solution which i could find so far is installing the "Advanced Module Manager". The problem here is that with joomla, everytime you install a new component for shortcomings of the core-system you may find yourself facing other problems introduced to the new module/plugin/component.

So, anyone can vote for or against the solution with the "Advanced Module Manager" ?

      thanks,

    • Arnd, yes that's the way in 1.5 modules have to be assigned to menu items, but RT has taken care of that for you with gantry.

Try turning on the menu-less pages option in somaxiom...it's down on the bottom.

That should do the trick, set them to home, or any other layout you prefer.

    • Hi Arnd,
the modules i am refering to _are_ assigned to the HOME menu, id 1. The HOME Menu shows still aktiv after i click "read more" but the modules disapear.

Yes, but the actual articles that you are clicking on aren't assigned to a menu item although you have the intro text on the home page.

I'm just a member here as well not a moderator...and waiting patiently for other mobile devices to be added!
