How to avoid long code boxes in a post?

I sometimes post parts of my code into my posts here, and have noticed that it does put the code into the code box, but it doesn't stop it at a set number of lines and then just provide a scroller bar for them to scroll down and see the rest like I have seen it do for others posts. I assumed this was automatically done when you used the code button to place your code on the page, but apparently I was mistaken. So can anyone tell me how I can make it only show like 10 lines of my code, but if there is 50 lines in there, provide a scrollbar for viewers to scroll down to see the other 40 lines? It's not very attractive having a 600 line post!LOL
