What should be done to exclude toxic (raw) RT templates?
Posted 14 years 6 months ago
To choose a really good template for my website, I tested RT templates during ca. 9 months. So I don't know a RT template without problems. As I can see, every new RT template means new headaches. Besides, even the old templates aren't seamless.
To be frank, I'm afraid to apply at least one RT template at my website since, according to my general impression, RT templates are raw and hence not troubleproof. So my question to myself is 'What did I pay money for to RT?'
If your situation is alike, or if you see that RT templates must be of higher quality than they are, let's recommend the RT team what should be done to exclude toxic RT templates. Finally, we pay for their work. Do we deserve website templates which don't perform properly in just the same web browsers?

Hi, i have checked your other posts and none of them describes what kind of issues you are having with the templates. Can you please be more detailed on what is not working?
Please reply with a direct link to the issue & create a new thread for each new issue.

Hello Mr.prim! As specified above, it's about general discussion. That's what I'm doing. I'm talking about RT templates in general. I don't have so much time to describe all the problems caused by the templates I tested. However, other RT Club members have expressed some of their headaches per each RT template. Just open any forum on any RT template and you will see that.
Actually my goal consists not in total criticism. This wouldn't give a useful result. In my view, what we all need is effectiveness. If I spend say five hours tuning up a RT template so as to make it work on my website, that is not effective. If I spend hours reading RT Club Forums trying to understand what I should do with a raw, i.e. non-working, RT template, that is not effective. All that is caused by the RT templates.
In my opinion, there is a lack of good professional simplicity in the case of RT templates. The principle 'Keep it simple', or 'Keep it stupid simple' (KISS) is not prohibited to combine with highly professional web design. This is the way of real effectiveness when we lose the minimum of time for a RT template and can be focused mostly on working out website content itself.
Okay, example... The Refraction RocketLauncher...Time spent: the whole night. I followed the RT team instructions. The result was negative. No Refraction demo template was deployed, i.e. shown on the display. Only a narrow stripe of the template with indication of the template title, my site name, 'Home' title of the menu and the RT copyright. Nothing more. What did I do? I opened Tutorials which I downloaded together with the template files. They didn't help and all know that they almost never help. What is the sense of the Tutorials then?
I read the relevant forum. The forum sent me again to the respective RT team instructions which placed on the RT website. But they didn't help again. So the circle closed. Is that effective? No.
Why the system is not effective? My answer: loss of simplicity leads to loss of effectiveness. It doesn't matter what you are, a newb or a developer.
What do I suggest? Firstly, please make RT templates professionally simple. Then, any of them as well as any extension will be installed SIMPLY. Secondly, dear RT team members please don't be lazy, just put really complete information in the Tutorials so that even an idiot would realize how to handle every RT template. Step by step. Thirdly, please don't forget to bring RT templates into compliance with every new 'Joomla!' release as well as to take into account all changes of browsers' versions.
If the RT team would do this, I would pay for my RT Club membership with no doubt. Why? Because the team would be effective then. And so would be all RT templates. Money for the membership would be spent effectivelly then, too.

The installs are very easy to complete. In fact, they are the exact same as a Joomla install, you just need to click "Install Sample Data" at the proper step and the site will install fine. There are issues that arise with hosting set ups that are severely out of date, like running php4. Maybe this was your issue with your RocketLauncher install.
As far as features offered and compliance with all web browsers and Joomla Versions, that is all done! Each time a new Joomla version is released, the RocketLaunchers are updated to use it. The templates support all web browsers as well.
The templates here validate and run very well for many many people.
There can be issues when bad content is loaded or extensions that are not properly written. It is possible to put bad content into a good template and have the site break. If you put garbage in a bowl of potpourri, you're probably going to smell some garbage.
If you have specific issues, we're more than happy to assist you. If you have a site that is not working with an RT template, please let us know and let us know what extensions you are trying to make it work with.
There is a wealth of information on the forums here, and at times that makes it tough to search for specific issues, but if you do take some time, you'll see that there is more help here for just about every customization you want to make than anywhere else on the web.

What a bunch of nonsense. You also use countless hours designing a website from scratch and will ALWAYS run into problems with php, flash etc. I know as I also design flash and static websites from scratch.
Nothing in life is 100%
The beauty of these templates are that you get great ideas to further develop. It's not a "product ready from box" club. If you want ready out of the box templates I suggest you buy BORING no inspiring templates from example template-monster (not advertising as they do a poor job).
And till date I have never experienced not to get the right kind of help here ensuring my site to be finished in good time.

This is quite a sad post, but inevitable with the amount of people wanting perfection for nothing.
What you want is to buy a full functioning site that you don't have to put any work into, because you are lazy. Problems occur, but you will find answers here, sometimes instant, sometimes they take a bit longer. But they get you the answers.
Here's a case in note. You buy a Toyota car. Toyota have been making cars for decades. Never having brake problems before. Suddenly low and behold, the most reliable car maker in the world creates problems with there brakes/accelerators/mats. Same as Mercedes. Problems can come in all shapes and sizes and at any time.
Can also use examples of what ever other type of industry.
But especially in the technology industry where things change so quickly, you should be at least a little bit more understanding. These pros at rockettheme, produce cracking templates month in month out, for really not a lot of money. They could be charging a lot more, but there not. There template designs, codes, extensions etc are at the very top or are the best in the industry.
I use rt, yootheme and a few others, and I can say without question that rt produces the best product and support in the industry.

The essence of the situation is branding and relevance. RT templates provide a basis upon which to tailor and implement a solution specific to the intention and content of the site under development.
If you expect to implement the product out of the box, then you are chained to the generic expectations of that foundation. To do so, imho, is to deliberately squander opportunities.
