Suggestions for best SEO for Joomla Theme

Hi,
I have an simple html site and google likes it quite ok, as it has PR3 and also some underlying pages have PR2 etc... Now that I am changing to joomla, I don't want to loose this of course and even want to build this more in time...
When I type in Google, "Joomla seo" I see a lot of things coming along and I am a bit lost on what to use and what not... Modules ? plugins.. ? sitemap generators.
Does anybody have any suggestion which modules to use and which not.. ? I was hoping that 1 module or so, would have all items needed to have the best SEO.

Start with the Joomla core SEF and see how it goes.
If you don't use a bunch of specialized 3rd party component that need another 3rd party SEF component to get them working, you should be fine.
(In fact, Rocket Theme uses the Joomla core SEF and all is well!
)
Basic Core SEF:
If joomla is in the root; htdocs, or public_html...
In Global Configurations, Search Engine Friendly URLs Yes, Use Apache mod_rewrite Yes, Add suffix to URLs No.
Change htaccess.txt to .htaccess.
If it’s in a folder, you need to change the # RewriteBase / to reflect the path of your site.
Change:
# RewriteBase /
to:
RewriteBase /(the name of the folder joomla is in)
If that doesn't work, search or post here:
forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=544

Ok, will test this out... one more question.. Why are the pages in joomla, like below with the /index.php/ ?? With the index.php in between.. ?

is the joomla SEF enough.. ? don't we not need something like a sitemap maker.. etc.. and other SEO plugins ?
There are a lot out there, so that was the reason I was wondering... Any idea on them

- Sorry for interfering. What to do in the case you actually do have a 3rd party like Virtuemart that doesn't work just as well with joomla's default SEF? I mean what is the most decent solution you would apply?

shf404 or ARTIO are popular, though if you are concerned about VM in particular, you may want to ask on the VM forum for advice. - Thanks,
