SEF URLs - VM - or specific pages

As far as I know, default Joomla SEF URL's do not work properly when VM is installed. Is there a way to exclude the default joomla SEF for a portion/page/component of a Joomla website? I mean, can I have SEF enabled , and only disabled for the Shop (VM) page?
I know there are sh404SEF, and other components like this, but as far as I can tell they just double the content and I think this is not a very good practice on a long term with products that are unique for example (once sold they're out of the shop).
From your experience, how are you dealing with this problem? Do you have a component that I've missed? Or maybe I am misinformed about sh404SEF?
