Pricing of Magento Club

    • Is the regular price of $175 for a year for the Magento Club a mistake!

Perhaps it is a warning the cost of the other clubs is about to double!

I have been waiting patiently for the Magento Club to be launched, but am very disspointed at the price point.

You should be encouraging your exisiting Club members to "Add On" the other templates - something signifcantly more than a 15% discount for an unknown product.

I for one will not be paying the $175 or the $150 "discounted" price for an unproven template.

I am sure Sam has done a fantastic job and invested a huge amount of time and effort ... but a lower price point would make this more attractive to many of your existing members .... it's all in the numbers, - make it affordable and members will add-on other modules ... the more subscribers, the better for Rocketheme ... and the more resouces to develop it further.

    • Each club is separate as it would be impossible (in terms of business) to offer all templates from all clubs (because of development costs) at one price point.

That is why each club is separate.

If RT were to offer one price for 3/6/12 month access to all clubs, the price would be exorbitant.

      www.rockettheme.com/join-a-club

Even if there was a package to join all the clubs for the minimum amount of time, it would be $290.

(Currently 1-2 entitlements per club, 60-90 days of support.)

But what if you only use Joomla, or Joomla and phpbb3, or only WP, Drupal, or Magento?

Most of your subscription would go to waste.

      {We have seen similar topics issues with Joomla / phpBB3 integration - yes, if you want phpBB3 to match the template you have to join that club as well - two separate platforms}

IMHO, I wouldn't pay $290 for a packages like this as I only use Joomla and phpBB3, why would I pay 'extra' for access to four other clubs that I don't use templates for.

I.e., if you are using Joomla now and want to use Magento, would you be willing to pay for a 'Master subscription' to four other clubs that you have no intention of using?

Mix and match is really the best solution.

Get a subscription to a club or clubs for the platform or platforms you plan to develop on.

Similar to MS Office or Adobe Creative Suite (but not exactly the same) ...

If you only want Word or Fireworks, you probably wouldn't want to buy MS Office Pro or the entire Adobe Creative Suite, just the programs you plan to use.

Maybe it's confusing because all the templates / styles we have are listed on one site, but you should consider each club as a separate entity (or company) like MS = Joomla, Adobe = phpBB3, WP = Roxio, etc, etc...

    • Magento is a much larger system than the others and takes a significant amount of work to develop for, but I think you'll find that the time these extensions and templates save you makes that subscription rate seem like a very small price to pay.

    • Frankly I think the price is cheap compared to the competition.
if you look at "per per template"-offerings the prices are around 180 $ for a single template.
Clubs start around 300-350$ (correct me if I'm wrong).
Also templates will be added each month.

    • For those that doesn't use Magento wouldn't know such things.
But for example, if you check the Magento Extension library ( www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect )

You will quickly see how much more all things costs compared to Joomla.
For example, and quote system that costs $99 for Joomla costs $499 to Magento. For basicly same features. Because of the complex system of Magento, everything costs much more.

And i can say, this Magento club rocks. And if you are using MageBridge. You will both get everything synced between Joomla and Magento. Matching design and also now get rid of the JS issues!

    • Hi all,

Jonathon is correct, I am not a Magento user or publisher - just a Rocketheme Member who would like to learn more about Magento.

From my perspective, a lower introductory price point would allow me (and perhaps many other existing members) to invest say $50 (like the Wordpress Club 90 day option) to try it out. If we like it and are successful in creating a useable store front, we would be more likely renew at the full price.

I do not know the full potential of the templates - for example in Jonathon's post he mentions MageBridge, but this is not listed as a feature on the Magento page, and in an earlier post Ben indicated it was not supported at this time.

Also Sam Mahoney recently indicated in a post - that integration with Joomla is not supported - http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=2&t=122328&p=613175&hilit=magebridge&rb_v=viewtopic#p613175
I'm sure that for certain people that need some of the functionality that Joomla offers integrated into a Magento store, then something like MageBridge would be the way to go. But for those that just need an online store, and are happy with the simple CMS pages (and possibly the addition of the AW BLog extension, which we added support for in our templates) then a standalone Magento store is the best option. Hence the reason that we decided to develop Magento standalone, as opposed to bridging it with Joomla.

I am still a happy Rocketheme member, and enjoy learning from each month's releases. It is more of a hobby, as I find it very informative to explore the tempates and experiment with the new features, etc.

I belong to the Joomla Club (just renewed again yesterday), Wordpress and PHP3, even though I am not what you would call a "publisher" in any of those platforms. Maybe there should be a just learning option :cheesy:

    • I'm pretty sure sooner or later we will have a free Magento-template (at least I hope so) so you can check the quality of Sam's work. Just to say that - Magento is a Monster truck. Nothing to just play around with.
When you build a business on Magento you will soon see that the price is not high.

    • Just to clarify my earlier comment about MageBridge - Ben did not say it was "not supported", just that is was "not recommended".

I have read through all of the posts and carefully reviewed the demos and documentation on the extensions. Great job on the documentation - very easy to follow! Sam appears top have done a great job of developing these user friendly configuration tools.

I took a stab at creating a Magento store, over a year ago and gave up, as it was so difficult to configure - hopefully the templates and extensions will remove that barrier as Magento is a terrific platform.

Good luck with the new club - I will monitor the forums and make a decision down the road once there is more feedback on the success of others implementing these templates. :)

    • Hi Allan

Just wanted to add a quick note regarding the pricing. Each template comes with 12 custom extensions, fully integrated into the design. If you check out some other extension developers prices, you could see for example (I just grabbed these off the net):

      Featured Products Extension $99
      Home Tabs Extension $119
      Product Video Extension $129
      "On Sale" Extension $99
      Advanced Menu Extension $89

So just these 5 extensions (of which we have similar) would set you back $535. So for 12 extensions you would be looking at over $1000. And that's without a template, and without the extensions being integrated into the design.

    • Hi Sam,

I understand what you are saying, and appreciate the value of the effort you have put into this product.

When marketing a product, which has no incremental costs to each unit sold, volume is king. If you can get 1,000 subscribers at $50 during a product launch, you are far better off than having 100 subscribers at $150. You would also have a much better chance of retaining the 1,000 early adopters, at a full renewal price point, assuming the templates are as good as they look.

I have checked the demo carefully and really, really like what I see ... unfortunately my previous attempts to get Magento working were filled with many frustrating nights and I finally gave up and used another product instead ... a poor substitute, but at least I got it working.

I thought I would monitor the comments on the forum, but that is not going to work as I do not even have "read" access  ... seems strange that Rocketheme would not allow "read only" priviledges to their Members from other platforms.

A more "Member Friendly" approach would likely result in much more buy-in and experimentation of Members in other platforms.

Enough said....will sit on the sidelines for now.

      Allan
