    False Advertising

Posted 14 years 4 months ago
    • I am really disappointed with your membership and feel that I have been deceived. I have tried different template membership but never have I been mislead like this before. Before purchasing my membership I went through the different tutorial videos and documentation. Frequently phrases like

      "Perfect Replica of demo"
"Exact implementation of Demo images, extension, content module "

This video specially emphasizes both visually and verbally these pointers.

NONE of the downloadable Rocket Launcher repack are close to or a "Perfect replica of the demo." There are no images and lay out are not the same.

Secondly, the newest template, social network -Tachyon, requires you to purchase a $200 JomSocial module to even function as advertised. A very sneaky and deceiving marketing strategy. The demo very clearly illustrates that this is the major component of this module which should NOT be demo'd or advertsised with JomSocial if it does not come with it.

I'm sorry but this kind of marketing is just not acceptable, unproffesional and very dishonest.

I'm asking for a refund or if not I will file for a chargeback due to false advertising.

      Good luck with your membership

    • Hi there,

It is a shame that you feel disappointed about your membership but I can assure you that there has been no deception about what your chosen membership provides.Pet Natividad wrote:

Most members take time to check what is available, look at documentation, check some tutorials and generally browse the site. Most of them will take time to look at the terms and conditions too.Pet Natividad wrote:

The video does indeed say that the Rocket Launcher includes the demo images but that video was released in the first part of 2008. The video is an example of how to install Rocket Launcher, and back then the demo images were supplied. Unfortunately too many people ignored the information provided in the Terms of Service , especially point 11...

Content used in our Demos and RocketLaunchers are used for demonstration purposes only and should not be used in any live environment without the express permission of RocketTheme or any other copyright holder.

As a result it became necessary to ensure that all Rocket Launcher packs had the demo images replaced with dummy images.

I have just installed 6 Rocket Launcher packs and I fail to see any layout difference between them and the demo site. The Rocket Launchers are created from the demo site but just have the images changed. The only other difference is if we have added a 3rd party component to demonstrate styling.

On the latest demo there is an advert on the Home page showing that JomSocial is a paid for product and it highlights a discount for RT members. If JomSocial was an important element for your purchase then I am sure you would have visited the JomSocial menu item to find out more. You could not fail to notice the big notice explaining that JomSocial is a 3rd Party Product. Here is the content of that notice...

JomSocial is a commercial / paid 3rd party component for Joomla. Therefore, it is not available with the Tachyon RocketLauncher, nor from RocketTheme directly. In order to use JomSocial, you will need to purchase it from Azrul.com. We are running a special promotion where you can save up to $50 off of your JomSocial purchase by using our exclusive 35% off RocketTheme coupon (Members Only).

I fail to see how you can claim our marketing is unprofessional or dishonest. Everything is clearly explained in the member guides, frequently asked questions and terms of service. If you had read these and seen the 2008 video then you would have been aware that there was a difference and could have made enquiries before making your purchase.

I hope this clarifies some of the concerns you have.

    • Dont you think its important to let your customers know that they are NOT getting what you are showing them ? I spent a good 20 minutes reading through your docs and videos. As a web developer/designer of your own website it is important to be aware of user behaviors and where they go and what they read. If these videos/docs are outdated and inaccurate, these should me removed or amended.I obviously did not filter and read only outdated information, these are information that are found on your static pages and not dated like the forum.

I dont know about you but if someone tries to show me something they are selling and i get home and see I got something else... I would be upset.

      Just saying...

    • Hi there,

I think that is a good point to raise and we have tried to make things obvious as to what is included in membership. Perhaps we also need to make it even more obvious as to what isn't included in membership.

Just imagine if every industry had to be that obvious though. You buy a picnic table and the advertising picture shows a young attractive family eating on the beach in glorious sunshine. They would need a warning to explain that there is no family included, neither is there a beach, and the weather will do as it wants. :cheesy:

In fact Apple had to amend their TV advertising to include the message that the apps displayed were shown using a shortened sequence and timeframe compared that which will happen in real time.

Thanks for your understanding and your feedback.

    • I agree with David here, is not possible to have every single thing type down, to a level where is necessary to hold the customer/user/member’s hand and follow them around the site.

Is allowed to show some sort of common sense when making a purchase on a site, what you see is not necessary what you get. Just like in David’s example you don’t get the beach or the family with the picnic table. :cheesy:

    • Just for your information:

      www.rockettheme.com/documents/rocketlauncher/index.html
      What is RocketLauncher?

The RocketLauncher packages allow you to easily and quickly deploy RocketTheme templates and themes that include custom configuration and settings that have been professionally tuned to look their best giving you a similar install of the RocketTheme demo for that particular template or theme as seen on the RocketTheme demo server.
      How Does it Work?

The RocketLauncher packages contain a default installation of the software for that particular platform (Joomla 1.0.x, Joomla 1.5, phpBB3, etc) as well as the template or theme and custom content, sample image placeholders, and settings of the template or theme demo.
Installation consists of using the software included in the RocketLauncher package and following the standard installation instructions for that particular software. Installation instructions for each type of RocketLauncher packages are available in the Tutorials section of the RocketTheme site in written and video form as well as on the individual demo sites.
⊕ RocketLauncher packages insert the custom settings, sample images, and content during the software installation process, therefore RocketLauncher packages will only work as a NEW installation and are not compatible with existing site and site content.

⊕ Installation instructions for each type of RocketLauncher package are available in the Tutorials section of the RocketTheme site as well as on their respective template demo sites

      demo.rockettheme.com/feb11/jomsocial
JomSocial is a commercial / paid 3rd party component for Joomla. Therefore, it is not available with the Tachyon RocketLauncher, nor from RocketTheme directly. In order to use JomSocial, you will need to purchase it from Azrul.com. We are running a special promotion where you can save up to $50 off of your JomSocial purchase by using our exclusive 35% off RocketTheme coupon (Members Only).

I think that says it pretty clear ...

But of course I'm sorry that you are not satisfied.
Please use the the contact-form if you want a refund.

    • I know for a fact that the Tachyon theme is false advertised. What you show for your product display is not what comes within the package itself. That is false advertising, no matter what your TOS says. I am already in contacts with the attorney general to try and get this sorted out. I'll let you all know when I get a response and the attorney general takes these matters very serious.

      Enjoy.

    • Derek / Nerdz...
You guys are a joke... Rockettheme provide awsome templates, the key word is its a template for YOU to work on to make it how you want it.
The demo replication is as true as it could be, even if they included the images, you couldnt use them! Unless RT start using stock images and then add that the the price making the themes bloody expensive!

Sounds like you guys are vey new to either web development or just templates in general, ive been developing sites for years and i havent found a better bunch of guys, better support or better themes then RT.

I dont think RT should ever send out a refund! Put yourself in their shoes... if you went to see a film at the cinema and came out feeling that the film didnt live up to expectations... would you ask for your money back? and would it be the cinemas fault?

You have had access to the site and downloaded perfectly good themes just like the rest of us have, if you get a refund now for kicking up a fuss over a bunch of pointless criticisms then everyone would just join, file a complaint, get a refund and keep the themes...

As pointed out, they cant list everything it doesnt come with, infact maybe they should put a warning up that the templates dont come with intelligence!

I'd like to see this claim in a court of law, good luck with that... 8)
