phpBB3 /RocketTheme Question

  • phpBB3 /RocketTheme Question

Posted 14 years 3 months ago
    • OK, I currently have a vBulletin community (v3.8.4) but I'm wanting to go to phpBB3 to compliment my RocketTheme (Zephyr) template. I love the fact that I can integrate the Zephyr styling into phpBB.

Here's the GOLDEN question, though. Can I go ahead and install phpBB and worry about using the vBulletin --> phpBB converter and JFusion (user integration) at a later time? I'm just really excited to see how the phpbb looks with the Zephyr template! Plus...I refuse to pay more money to be able to upgrade my vBulletin.

    • Does anyone have any advice on this?

    • Anyone?? I find it hard to believe that no one from the RocketTheme staff is responding to this...especially since it deals with new service ($$) from a customer.

I must not being saying something correctly.

    • I do not know if you can install phpBB and worry about using the vBulletin phpBB converter and JFusion (user integration) at a later time but, if you can successfully move your "stuff" from vBulletin to phpBB3, then do it. I have the latest release of vBulletin and I'm not doing anything with it, I would much rather use phpBB3. Why not just use RokBridge instead of JFusion?

Anyone want to buy a vBulletin license?...

    • Thanks for the reply. Actually, now that I think about it. Wouldn't phpBB3 need to be installed first in order to migrate from one database to the other?

Bumping your own posts takes them out of the unanswered queue and makes them look like a thread that is already being worked on, so they may go unnoticed.

Yes, phpBB3 would need to be installed first.

I don't know the exact process, but if it is similar to Joomla, you need to have your old DB backed up and ready to import during the install.

(That is something you would have to search or ask about on the phpBB site)

In any case, with a move like this, it's best to practice a few times on local host before you dig in and try to do it on a live site.

    • OK, understood JEM. Thanks for the response :D

I'll try and research some things before diving too deep into this.

    • NP NintendoNerds,

Just good practice to work on localhost or a dev site before you blow anything up... :D

      Proactive vs. reactive...

(In my case I test everything locally before trying it live, sometimes several times before I find the right combination, but far easier then getting stuck with something that doesn't work and then trying to figure out how to fix it.)

      Cheers!
    • Thanks,

    • Cool :D

I mean...it shouldn't be too hard. I'm sure I'm one of the very many that's wanting to go from vBulletin ---> phpBB3, right?
