Gantry Component and Cache Plugin

Hello, this is probably a stupid question, but I am running a RocketTheme Template (Omnicron) and know it is built on Gantry Framework.
Well, I did see an older version of Gantry on the Vulnerable Extensions List, so I thought I would update or at least check my version. I noticed both the Gantry component and the Gantry Cache plugin are disabled in my install. (I don't think they were ever turned on...)
Why would I need these extensions and what are they for? My template works great and has all the functionality of the demo template that I need.
Also, if my template has been updated since the fix was released, do I even need to worry?

No you need not worry. I generally update the sites I manage when a framework update come out though. The Gantry component is just the component library files.

Thanks for the reply on the link to the great info. Still curious about what you mean by the Gantry Component is just the component library files.
When updating Gantry what should I be concerned about? I am not sure what to update as I do not have either the component or cache turned on. ( I think I will try turning on the cache after reading the article) but how am I using Gantry if I have the component turned off?
I guess it is just part of the template and I needn't worry?

When upgrading the Gantry Framework go to:
code.google.com/p/gantry-framework/downl...=2&q=platform=Joomla
download and install the file titled: gantry_joomla_framework-3.1.7.zip
Of course the version number will be different as upgrades come out.
