    • Dear All,

      I have been using Joomla for few years now, but have noticed that the RT Wordpress templates are pretty amazing these days. I am about to do a radical reworking of my website and wondering whether my needs are better suited to Joomla or Wordpress based site. I have very little knowledge of Wordpress, and I find Joomla good, but cumbersome to use and difficult to achieve really classy looking pages.

      I am a musician and teacher and want my website to include:
      • Promo info about me and what I do
      • Promo info about books I sell and ability to "look inside" or view sample pages
      • Online ordering of my books
      • Blog for short magazine style articles about music teaching
      • management of free downloadable Word docs and PDFs
      • Paid subscription service providing access video clips and PDF files for download.
      • Contact form

      I know in the WWW there are many ways to do the same tasks and probably both CMS could do what I need. But I am interested in functionality, ease of use and ability to produce great looking pages simply. THanks for your advice.

    • If you are looking for "ease of use", and considering what your website needs, I would use WP. It depends however on how would you like to handle your clients/users. Joomla is more powerful on this side. When you are saying online order of your books, how many of them? What's the process?

      Usually when selecting a cms you have to keep in mind what are you going to do with the site in the future. Is it going to expand? What is the interaction level with your user? etc.

    • currently my online order process asks user to fiill in a form and submit electronically, but I would like to incorporate a shopping cart and marketting type software. Seems WP doesn't do well on this front. Joomla has some extensions but I really don't like Virtue Mart... I find it cumbersome!
