Question about Reaction Template

Based on the default template, it looks like the 4 images on the front page have comment counts on the upper left. Is that a built in feature?
I am having a company edit this template for me and they are telling me that this is not something they can do.
Thoughts?

- So how do the images work on the front of the Reaction template? Is that a RokNewPager module? Are the images that show up on the front page a tagged iamge in a particular section or category?
