    • Here are some notes from Joomla...

      http://community.joomla.org/blogs/leadership/1442-wanted-new-features-for-version-17.html

      Mentioned a couple times...
Because this is our first cycle of this type, we will be figuring some stuff out as we go along. We have the general outline of the process, as will be explained here, but there will no doubt be things that we need to adjust or change.
A second wrinkle is that, on or about 30 April 2011, we will split off the Joomla Platform (the libraries folder more or less) as a separate project. This will change the way in which we fix bugs and add features that affect the platform. Again, this is all new, so again we will be learning as we go along.

    • We are and have been working on 1.6 releases, but this takes time. As i've stated we had to get all our extensions updated first, as many templates rely on them. This is pretty much done now, and releases should follow very shortly.

However, as can be seen with the recent 1.6.2 release and now the 1.6.3 release, there are still major issues getting pushed out that negatively effect our development efforts and you the users. Working with this issues and while continuing to support 1.5 and creating new templates and extensions monthly is taking time. Please be patient, we really are working as hard as we can.

    • After the last Joomla updates, I feel comfortable if RT does what Akeeba Tools is doing, and NOT pushing forward.

I really like the J1.6, but it is being treated by the developers as an Alpha release. There is a very good reason why extension developers do not work on upgrades until RC status... too many changes.

The Joomla team doesn't seem to understand that RC and especially Release and Stable should never have any major code changes.

And they don't even have a migration tool.

Andy, at first I was cursing RT and Gantry, thinking that all of that functionality is now a burden moving forward. But after trying to do a simple migration from 1.5 to 1.6, with stock templates, I am reassured that the issues are coming from the unorganized Joomla Team.

Thank you for keeping things moving as best you can.

    • Is it expected that at some point there will be a way to move an existing 1.5 site to a 1.X site? Is there going to be a migration for Joomla, RT, and Gantry?
      newbie..

I'm with you! After two weeks of playing around with 1.6, I've decided to stick with 1.5 until I see a stable version for more than a month or two. It's a shame Joomla! pushed the envelope so quickly. Looks like some things are coming back for postage due! :P

    • I'm waiting until 1.6.x is more...uh... stable in regards to extensions.

I pine for the 1.6 ACL, but alas. I wish that i could use 1.6 on production sites at this, but there is just no way that i see that as being doable at this time.
