    • Installed FB,, it seems like it really has a great future,, especially if it can intergrate with CB and Gallery components more so in the future versions.

Was thinking about going back to SMF just for the soilid footing it has under the strain of a larger community.

then, Last night I was reading VJoomla is due out soon,, I may wait for that as that is what I would have always prefered in the first place VBulletin Intergrated with Joomla ( Check on Joomla.org for details)

    • if a client comes to you tomorrow and says they want a forum you have to go SMF ... if however you've got a client that supports open source and is aware of the development cycle and is happy to try new things, then fireboard is the way forward simply because it integrates so well

out of interest on the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1 i just uninstalled 1 and installed 1.1 and had no issues

    • Well, after installing Fireboard 1.0.1Beta I found out it coughs up with Javascript errors on IE7 (works fine on Firefox). It appears to be their JQuery routines that are the problem. It happens on both my board on the RocketTheme template, as well as just trying to browse Best of Joomla's own Fireboard forums. Bad...

    • lol never noticed that.

They really shouldn't be using Jquery if they want to move to J1.5.

*sniffs the air* I smell a mootools version being needed.

    • There is a big different between FB and SMF. The first one is a component of joomla, it is done FOR Joomla while SMF is NOT done for joomla.

Having to install bridges may cause compatibilty problems. On the other hand, I've heard that there is not gonna be the official bridge for Joomla! 1.5. And the bridge from JoomlaHacks.com can also see its development interrupted.

Fireboard IS the future as it's done for Joomla. It's being very well developped.

The only problem is havign to wait until version 1.0.2 with all bugs fixed.

    • There is still a massive market for Joomla!-SMF bridges and it is not going to dry up. There will be a solution pop up somewhere, maybe even RokBridge :D (that was just an assumption).

Fireboard still needs a hell of a lot of development to match SMF and others such as vbulletin (rubbish IMHO) and IBP(pretty cool). In my eyes, these will still be the popular choice for large forums over fireboard for a very long time to come.

Just my opinion of course :)

Lets see what the future shall hold :o

    • I totally agreee that SMF is more developed, FB only needs time but it has it.

However, joomla will moove into version 1.5 and with this ( www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=137121.0 ) SMF seems as it's not gonna last anymore.

There might be a hack but there might not be a hack. And if there is one, until when? ???

This is the main reason for which I believe I'll take FB...
