Joomla template (index.php) shows up blank

Posted 17 years 11 months ago
    • I downloaded my template earlier today, uploaded everything, and when I click on index.php it says, "Direct Access to this location is not allowed." When I attempt to edit index.php using Frontpage, nothing appears.

      Please help.

    • You can edit the file by going to Admin > Site > Template Manager > Site Templates > A template > Edit HTML

I personally login to the web server via FTP and download and edit the file in dreamweaver.

    • Where is Admin > Site > Template Manager > Site Templates > A template > Edit HTML? Is this in Dreamweaver?

    • I have no idea what you are talking about because I don't understand what I am logging into? I open index.php in Frontpage and nothing shows up. I can view the bare bones html, but nothing displays when I preview the page. Is there a program everyone is using to edit their pages that I am unaware of? I also logged into my server, but my server doesn't have the Admin > Site > Template Manager > Site Templates > A template > Edit HTML.

Please be more specific. Everyone is basically saying you need to login, and I get that, but what am I logging into? Where is Admin > Site > Template Manager > Site Templates > A template > Edit HTML?

There really is no readme for how to get started. I read the pinned topics, but they don't really explain where to start. I see a bunch of files in my rared folder, now what? Do I edit index.php with Frontpage? Do I upload and edit index.php on my server? Do I need to download joomlaxplorer? What do i need to do?

    • I use a top secret program for editing files... [shhhh]... it's called [HideFromPublic]Notepad[/HideFromPublic]! ;)

To enter you admin backend (or at least try to) go to:
      www.yoursiteurl.com/administrator

      Cheers!

    • Read the joomla manual Mr. Lindner, it's difficult to help you otherwise.

Do not use Frontpage, Do not use Dreamweaver.

      Use Filezilla for FTP.

FTP into your templates folder and download index.php.

      Open index.php with PSpad Editor

Make your edits. Save. Upload back to original location with Filezilla.

      OR...

as Roland pointed out, go to your admin panel (yoursiteurl.com/administrator). You can't do anything with your site without the admin panel. Learn everything about it. Read the manual.

Read the manual. While you are in the admin panel, look at the top of the screen. You will see a horizontal menu. Hover over the "SITE" menu item, then over the "TEMPLATE MANAGER" item, then click on "SITE TEMPLATES". A list of templates will show. Click on the radio button before the template you wish to edit, then click on the "EDIT HTML" icon (It is at top right of your screen).

make your edits. click on the "SAVE" icon in top right of the screen.

      read the manual please
