Please help me better understand Joomla's design

    • Ok. I know I could probably find this answer in the forums, but.....I have trouble knowing the terminology of what I am asking so I will try to explain. I have a site
      www.deepsouthequipment.com
Please take a moment to look at it. If you go to the menu item "coverage area" you will see maps and some static content. The site is PHPNuke but the security issues are prompting me to change. Anyway to add a page like that in phpNuke I simply copy two lines of code into an html file and place it in the module folder and item then shows up on the admin menu. then in side the html file i simply place the web page I need between the lines. If there are pics, I simply create another folder within the module folder and place the pictures in there, then reference the folder with my html code. The basic questions I have are:

When selecting a menu item and changing from the front page, how do I mark which modules to show for that page? Meaning if I select forums, how would i select not to have the front page "simple image rotator" or "advertisments" show so the forum is full screen and all that is showing is the top menu. How do I make these adjustments on every individual menu.

Can you place two of the same kind of module in the home page if it is JAVA based for example some of the image rotators.

Would appreciate any insight or even some place to find the insight.

Also is there an easy way to port the usernames over from PHPNuke?

      Thanks again

    • Wow, PHP Nuke sounds like a lot of work just to put in modules. :o

      Anyway to your questions:

To control where modules appear go to the modules-->site modules screen. Then select the module you want to control.

On the right hand you will see a box with a list of all the menu options. use shift/ctrl + select to highlight only the screens you want the module to appear on.

As for Java slideshows, well, it depends on the module designer. Some allow it just fine, some will crash (not many though) and some will display one of the modules twice, especially if it is Ajax based.

Some also have the ability to enter a unique code to allow you to differentiate between them. (my modules for example all allow this when it is appropriate)
