Viewing RocketTheme Templates on the Xoom Tablet

Posted 13 years 10 months ago
    • Hello All,

I'm testing a site I'm building and recently viewed it on the Motorola Xoom Tablet. The site is built using the Nebulae Template. The loadup is slow and there is EXTREMELY slow responses to the menuing and ContentRotator. In fact, the sub-menus in the top menu don't show up at all.

      Anyone else having this problem?

Here you go: losangeles.urnooz.com As you will see the menuing is less than functional and the modules also suffer.

    • Sorry, I don't have a tablet to check...

On a PC with FireFox, the Menus seem to function properly.

But I did notice the images in the showcase are huge, 377-685kb each.

      You should consider optimizing them.

Unfortunately you would need a tablet to see the the problem.

As a test, how does the RT Nebula demo work on your Xoom hotscotch?

      Cheers

Its extremely sluggish and dropdown menu system doesnt work at all. I also tried to view the demo of the template on the RT sure and it looks and behaves even worse.

    • I've asked some other moderators to take a look.

But as you mentioned, without a tablet it would be hard to check, so hopefully some one will have one...

BTW, all the images I mentioned are still the same size.

I really don't know what is choking your site (seems to be loading a bit slower that I recall on my first visit), but as far as troubleshooting goes, as I mentioned on the 8th, you might want to at least try that.

If it doesn't make a difference, you can always revert to the original images.

Thank you, Jem, for your response. Although the single banner images could, and will be, optimized, it's not the cause of the overall sluggishness of the site nor the non-functioning menu system, which is of a higher concern. This is apparent when you try to navigate in the tablet. I'm currently using the 32GB Motorola Xoom and am also experiencing a similar problem in the 64 GB iPad2.

I've also tried this using the native Xoom browser (chrome-based) and Opera. Both react the same.

I'd be interested in hearing what the other moderators think as well. With an exploding tablet market and the lock-down on bandwidth by mobile carriers, fast and efficient tablet/mobile versions of websites will become more and more essential. It behooves all web, app, user-experience consultants (the new buzz) and ecommerce developers to know this and start providing solutions.

      Best,
