Breaking News - Safari on windows

Posted 17 years 10 months ago
    • FYI, safari 3 (shipping with OS X Leopard) is also going to be available on windows. And apparently it's going to run about 1.6X faster than IE does on windows.. sweet. Just heard this on the Apple WWDC audio live feed.

    • The speed comparison chart must be wrong, on my machine Opera 9.2 is the fastest, than IE7 than FireFox 2.0.0.4

Oh come on James! What are you an amateur?!!! Haven't you heard of magic ink? What you do is you hold a candle up to your screen preferably within 5 millimeters and as the screen warms up the text will show. It's military technology you know.

    • I got the same problem James - no text. I have seen some comments on news sites where they have the same problem. And something on Apple support. I am still looking. I can't imagine it is an issue of not having a font since I have so many in my collection. If anyone knows of a solution - that would be great. If I can find one - I'll post it. Unfortunately one site I do involves primarily Safari users. Looks like I will still have to ask the middle school if I can borrow a laptop for redoing that site. One day when I have some extra money (ha!) I'll get a Mac.

    • Got it to work - with this rather bizarre fix:
      discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=992780&tstart=0
First I did the following. Open the Safari directory and found a directory called Safari.resources. I copied both Fonts that are located in that directory into windows. Closed restarted. STILL didn't work.

I then renamed the safari.resources to something else. Load the application get an Access Violation. (Clicked twice for the fun)

Then rename it back and ITS WORKING.

      And another post:
I can confirm that the following procedure worked for me in getting Safari running in XP Pro SP2:

      1. Copy the Lucida Grande font files to the \Windows\Fonts directory.
      2. Rename the Safari.resources folder to something else.
      3. Try to start Safari, get an error message, and dismiss the message.
      4. Name Safari.resources back to its original name.
      5. Start Safari.

      Hope this helps!

    • The second post worked for me :)

      Cheers

      EDIT

Actually, it only made the first line of text appear ???

      Edit 2.0

      Working now :D

    • Yay - glad it worked for you too. I have been checking out RT demos and stuff I have been working on. I figured it was a font issue. Glad it was easy to solve - especially since someone else already had the answer ;)

BTW - RT stuff looks soooo nice in Safari!
