    • Hi,

I noticed that the default template of gantry can for example change the background color of the webpage to nay color while a couple of Club templates i played around can only change this feature to one of 3 pre defined colors.

i actually only reallt thought about it while reading gantry webpage and seeing a comment about not all gantry features being enabled on the default gantry template provided at gantry webpage.

So my question is, wich template comprises ALL the feature (if any) that gantry offers in terms of tempate customization from gantry admin section?.

    • Hi there,

As most of the templates are developed to a theme it becomes necessary to change the template admin to accommodate the features of that template. You mention background colours yet in some of our templates we have images rather than colours.

However there is nothing stopping you from selecting the template that closest matches your needs and then editing the options to suit. In fact this is what I tend to do myself for my clients. In some cases I cannot find one of the monthly templates to suit my client needs so I start with the default Gantry template and then convert whatever I need to, such as this site http://www.ecrtraining.com .

      Hope this helps 8)

    • I just wish for a template that haves all the features that gantry offers enabled.
Like the options to use colorpicker to any of the template "zones" (background, top, footer etc...) or use a picture instead.

another example would be to have the option to lock any of the template zones to move while the user scrolls down and up the webpage.

Another thing that would be awsome and yeah i knwo i am asking allot, would be to have the option to change some CSS from the template admin itself like, button color . .shape.. something like Artisteer offers.

I can only imagine that this would be allot of work for someone to develope a template to accomplish this, but it goes without saying that this would be the ULTIMATE or EXTREME or whatever name you fancy the most for a template that could trully be used as a basis for almost any project without having to actually understand CSS or XHTML for example.. this would bring the power of customizing templates to allot more users.

that being said, i love Rockettheme templates!

    • Hi there,

I guess you are not a full-time web developer then :cheesy:

If templates could manage all of your wishes then there would be no need for developers. That would be a bit of a blow for those of us who make our living from developing web sites.

Unfortunately it is not realistic when we have browsers that still cannot be called uniform in the way they display code. The files for such templates would be so large they would take forever to load. Add to that the various tablets and phones, and you end up with a template as bloated as Windows :cheesy:

      Nice thoughts though 8)

    • So what you say is that only softwares like Artisteer are able to offer that?

Artister seems but it doesnt let the user add more modules, wich is why i thought of gantry as a substitute granted that it would be as easy to play with as Artisteer.

Developers will always be needed! fortunatly to even the current developers that in the last decates developers also focused on delivering tools that easy up the job to eveyone, developers included, not to mention the new "inventions" as SEO, XHTML, new HTML Vers. such (what about the 3d sites? you think that will actually go somewhere?). but i understand what you saying and yeap, i am not a developer, but will glady host your sites ;) offering you awsome prices, like $3.50 .

Artisteer allows people to use the base Joomla layouts and add images, colours, text etc. to make it look different. As you point out, it has some shortfalls in terms of fexibility.

When I tested Artisteer for a client I was impressed at the simplicity but its lack of positions and complicated css files meant it was not right for me.

Gantry has much more flexibility and also has simple controls but our custom templates do have variations in their admin controls. If we didn't do that we would have members wanting to understand why their site css files are so large.

I think that the interent has moved at such a rapid pace, spreading to mobile phones and tablets, that a whole generation of kids have no idea how to interact with real people in a face to face environment. Heaven help us if 3D web takes off.

      Cheers
