Not sure why people are in such a hurry to upgrade when there is little support and compatibility for 1.7 and 1.5 works just fine - but that is just my opinion.
There are new Joomla! features that many people want to use. I wanted to use 1.6, but with all the problems, I skipped it and stayed with 1.5, but when 1.7 was released, I had to move forward.

Very happy with 1.7 and Camber at the moment, so you won't see any impatient posts from me 8) .

    • Well, wboro. That's good for you.
I've paid for a conversion of a wp site to J!. And now...? :D
Let's smile.. nothing else to do.
As everybody stated, from 1.5 to 1.6 it's a true conversion, not a simple upgrade. How can I call a return to 1.5? LOOOL..
      VIVA Wordpress (at the moment).

    • AH, forgotten to say that I've left the j 1.7 templates (all compatible with 1.7) of another famous joomla template dealers, as Rockettheme is the one I follow and pay even if I don't use/download as much as I hold my subscriptions. And I love the smart style of Rocketthemes. See ya in some month.

If you want to live on the 'bleeding edge', then you have to expect a few cuts. There is a price to be paid for early adoption of many technologies. Stability is a common one.Salvatore Franchina wrote:

You left behind some templates that were working for you? Hmm...

    • Ultimately it's up to each individual to decide what to do in this situation. Personally, I design websites for a living and I can't afford to play compatibility games with my clients money - at the end of the day it just has to work.

I have several 1.7 testing sites that I work with to keep up with what is going on, but I haven't seen any new feature that I need to have to do my job. All the new features in the world don't mean anything if it doesn't work right. I doubt I'll ever use 1.7 for any live site. I'm waiting for 1.8 to do upgrade packages, as that will be more than a passing version. For me personally, it makes sense to wait.

Take your chances on a new version or work with something tried and true - only you can decide. :cheesy:

    • Free to remain skeptical, WBoro.
I just left after some year (well: that was my intent) Wp to come back to J! and the scenario is J 1.7 NOW (so, please, save your "bleeding edge" for other nice situations).
I need to understand, not a psychologist.
And thank you for let me understand, or simply ignore me, if you cannot explain what I need(ed) to understand.

*...downgrading my unhappy version, as last attempt.
** joomlart has almost the all skins and components that work with 1.7, but there's not feeling with those templates: only a huge confusion.

    • Thanks, Cliff. For pure case on February I've done a site with J! 1.5 and solarsentinel, but before my attempt was to create it using WP. But J! is almost complete, even if it's a mess sometime, and I felt a bit guilty due the new version (1.6) and my decision (1.5). Now I'm going to delete the 1.7, restart from scratch with 1.5, and enjoy the time with your templates. You eventually, Cliff, told me what I needed to know.

    • Glad my advice was helpful, it's really more of my opinion. Different things work for different people, but no one should feel as if upgrading is required - just because you can doesn't mean you should. It's a difficult time for Joomla users, so just find what works and go with it.

    • I've been spending last month on this problem, thinking that the real problem was J1.5. Since your last answer, I deleted the J. 1.7, re-converted and wiped out 120 articles from WP to J!, and ...joking with "Reflex" and J 1.5. With the correct grade of peace.
