If I do not want an article on the home page, then how do I set up the "Home" Menu Item Type?

You can link it to the frontpage-blog (J1.5) or featured (J1.5).
Now you can set the "display: component" to off in the template-settings.
(you could also set "display: mainbody" to off wich will remove the entire mainbody)
You can set this for each menu-item individually with the per-menu-item-feature.

I think I follow... But the new template I set up for the home page won't save "Display Component to OFF" in it's advanced settings.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple.
