Loading an Article into a component

  • Loading an Article into a component

    • Hi all,

I hope somebody can point me in the right direction, as this is seriously doing my head in.

I have an article which explains an event. This displays properly. I've also installed an events component which has a text box for you to enter the event details. Rather than re-enter the event details, is there a way of loading the article into the event description?

ie is there a similar mambot to mosimage or mosloadposition, but for the contents of an article.

      Thanks

      Keith

    • There is a mod(s) to allow articles in modules, however you may want to consider just recreating the article into static content.

      Just a thought.

      Cheers!

    • Cheers for that, but the obvious question then arises .... if I convert it to static content, how do I reference/display it elsewhere?

    • Sorry, I was on my lunchbreak and didn't interpret your query correctly.

As far as I know, there is no way to pull the info from the article into your events component ( a calendar i presume?). Mind you, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer around here... but I doubt that it is possible.

Copying and pasting the info may be the only solution.

      Cheers!

    • It would probably be better to do it the other way around, to have the event entered in the events component and then use a mambot to display the event in a content item. JCal Pro has that sort of functionality, I believe.

EDIT: oops, there is a latest events bot for JCal Pro which allows the display of the latest events from the calendar in a content item. It probably wouldn't be too hard to write a event bot to display some event by title or by id in a content item...

    • On a similar note (just making sure I understand what's been said in this thread)...

I have successfully installed the Thyme extension but have been dismayed that there is no correlation between my content items and the events in the calendar. Admittedly, Thyme was very straightforward in suggesting that there would be no correlation, I wasn't surprised.

So, I've been looking at JCal Pro and JEvents, but my cursory investigation seems to show that there may still be no correlation between my content items and events in any calendar tool.

My goal is to be able to type up a content item (e.g. about a play at a local theater) and be able to make a calendar item from the same content. If someone were looking at the calendar for "next week", they would see the play at the local theater and be able to read my content item and the jcomments people have made about it.

Please let me know if this is possible in any well-regarded extension. To explain further, the goal is to be able to put my content item into a calendar, without having to manually copy-paste the text and the url for linking between the calendar item and the content item.

      thanks much!

I don't think you will find this functionality in any extension. Content items are just that, unless the extension explicitly uses content items for its calendar entries (and, to my knowledge, none of the calendars do), and you will have to copy&paste from content to calendar.

On the other hand it should be possible to write a mambot that would take the event info from an event and display it in a content item. You would still need to create the event in the calendar and the content item in Joomla but at least the event data is entered only once and consolidated.
