    unbelievably slowwwwww

Posted 13 years 9 months ago
    • Hi Guys
I have read through a very helpful explanation here
      http://tutorials.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=15&t=92880&sid=399e1d572531c189365d6da01c3cbf8e&rb_v=viewtopic

ANd have followed it v carefully
i have gantry cache and gzip enabled in the template settings, and the gcache and gzip plugins also enbabled. In the template settings, there are some settings for gantry/gzip...i left those as default.

I have not enabled system cache plugin as its a dynamic site.

      However its reallllllly slow
The temporary build url for the site can be seen here. (sorry not an english site, but you dont need to understadn the content anyway)
      http://d538472.u80.euro2world.net

Any idea why its sooooo slow and how i can speed it up?

It's nothing to do with the hosting - i have probably 40 odd joomla sites on same server. One or two are v slow. This is one of them

      Thanks
      Olly

    • Don't know if this will help, but there are a few errors.

      When you view source after loading the site, there are a lot of comments like this one;
      <!--
Unable to write to directory /hsphere/local/home/golfinfr/levyam.co.il/modules/mod_rokajaxsearch/themes/blue.
Skipping gzip file creation for files:
      /modules/mod_rokajaxsearch/themes/blue/rokajaxsearch-theme.css
      -->

There are a couple of JS errors popping up in Firebug too.

Above all else, there are a lot of scripts being loaded (mootools, jquery etc).

Hope this gives you somewhere to start! :)

    • Thanks for looking Antony at this.
Have no idea how to fix js errors
the other thing seems permission issues which i can sort.....
and when sorted that will allow gzip to work.
Hmm will keep this post updated
      thanks for the reply

    • Hi Iswy.

GZip looks like it's working properly now on your site. Also, just checking in Firebug and the errors seem to have vanished! There are a few warnings about parsing errors, but nothing that should affect performance too much.

It might help to spend some time removing any CSS rules that you don't need, and maybe attempting to combine some of the smaller ones together.

I'd really recommend running your site through ySlow (it's a plugin for Chrome and Firefox). It should tell you exactly what is taking so long to download when you visit the site, and also offer advice on how to speed things up!

      Hope this helps! Good luck!

    • You have 40 other joomla sites on the same server or on the same host?

I changed hosts recently and my website was similarly slow...very slow on the first visit, progressively getting better as items were cached...
Turns out the -dramatic- difference in performance was due to them not using Litespeed Server but Apache...
You'd probably want to check with your host on this...

Apart from this, I would say you better get rid of all extensions you don't absolutely need (and make sure that their files and MySQL tables have been removed), especially those with javascript, avoid keeping extensions with both JQuery and Mootools, make sure you have the latest version on everything and you enable the Mootools Upgrade plugin.
Try using only Joomla's global cache and gzip, avoid such extension which are not on official release version.
You can also try repairing/optimizing your MySQL tables (Akeeba Admin Tools can do that for you from Joomla's backend)....

Try Google's Page Speed (online or as a FF/Chrome extension) for some suggestions
