Defiantly do what Jem said, I once got a site hacked that used Joomla and I lost everything. It is defiantly worth taking 10 mins to back up your site.
Does your hosting company not provide (at the very least) weekly backups? If not, you should think about changing hosting company. They should easily be able to restore the server to a time prior to the 'hacking'.
It's also worth keeping your own backups as mentioned above, and for Joomla sites, Akeeba Backup (and their other tools) are a must have.
HostGator had the site back up within an hour. I just made a request via the chat module on their site. Very impressive service. :cheesy:
No one probably saw it, and I removed the link, but their was a bunch of flags and junk on the home page and something that said "site hacked by :::SNIPER:::"
HostGator said it was a "Joomla password being compromised by a brute force attack."
The 'firewall' tool is especially useful within this component to prevent unauthorised access, but you'll have to play around with settings to get things working in the way you want to.
