SOLVED - Global Config with changed URL's and settings?

Posted 13 years 5 months ago
    • I have a J1.7.3 site with a Reflex template.
I had "Search Engine Friendly URLs" turned on in global config settings but I did NOT have "Use URL rewriting" turned on. So all of my URL's had /index.php/ at the beginning after the domain. I now turned on "Use URL rewriting" and have renamed htaccess.txt to .htaccess in the root directory. I've attached a screenshot of my SEF global config settings now.

    • NOTE to forum mods: Right-Click is disabled on my site but source code is visible. Unfortunately, I have some images on my site that are licensed and the agreement is that right-click be disabled. I use the F12 key for Firebug instead of right-click. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    • Maybe you have cache on and need to delete cached files?

Somewhere are all the old "URL Alias" stored you need to delete those my guess is. Maybe even inside the database through phpmyadmin. But before you do this try delete browser cache and delete files you find in your site "cache" folders.

Also i noticed there is another htaccess inside the template folder too. For SEO i would suggest to use all available options there (turn everything on). As more things are modified from the default values, as better the ranking (i assume).

    • I've been having too many problems with the shared hosting server since I enabled the URL rewrites.

So I decided just to disable it and only have the SEF URL's enabled in global config settings.
