2 different joomla folders?

    • Is it possible for me to install 2 different joomla programs on the same site in two different folders?
      Here's the deal,
I have Joomla 1.7 installed in a subfolder of my domain called /joomla and have gotten radiance to work, however it took a VERY long time to sift thru all of the permissions issues, and I can't get any of the content to work as I want it (as in similar to the demo site)
So I'm considering making a separate folder to try this, but I have NEVER had any luck with joomla installations and have always had to ask my VPS provider to help and eventually just do it on their own. I have a hard time asking them to install a rocketlauncher though because any tech support they provide me is free, and I have a mental block that tells me if its free I shouldn't push my limits with specifying what I want them to do, and more specifically sending them the file to install for me.

I don't want to do it in the same folder OR overwrite because I don't want to kill something thats already working until I know I have something else thats working better.

So, if it CAN be done, I need a step by step guide because I really have a tough time with this server installation stuff. I have a VPS running cPanel, PHP is up to date (as I said, joomla 1.7 is already working, I just want the template to work better)

Or, is it possible to download the rocketlauncher and extract demo content and just FTP it to my site?

      Thanks
      Melissa

    • I just read thru my original post and realized I didnt completely explain what I want to do; I want to install the rocketlauncher into a separate folder, and if I can get that to work then I'll erase my orignal joomla folder. but if it doesn't work i'll go back to working on the original folder I started on

Yes you can do this, and ill suggest to create and addondomain to your second installation folder or you can just create a new folder on your server unzip the RT on the new folder and start with the new installation but be careful witn your databases tables. Don;t use the same as your other site if you do so you will overwrite the database for your working site

I can get that to work then I'll erase my orignal joomla folder. It depends how your perform the installation to avoid any issues with your working installation and if this is for testing purposes only i'll suggest to create a new database for the new joomla installation or you can use only a differente table prefix.

This is the answer you need?

And addondomain is something like this.
Suppose your site is ---> www.mysite.com
      and addondomain is ---> www.addon.mysite.com

    • thank you, you answered the bulk of my post (mainly yes, it is possible to have two separate joomla installs as long as I have two separate databases).

Now for the next part of my question, a step by step since as I said I have NEVER had any luck installing joomla. Is it the same as the 1.5 rocketlauncher video? I have yet to find a 1.7 video on this site, maybe it's hidden?

I do know how to create a database and a user, however as I said before I've always come up with all kinds of permissions issues and really just want something to WORK and be done with it

    • Would you like to create and addondomain for your new install or only use a new folder?

    • I'd like to just do it in a folder because eventually I will make it the site for the domain I'm using. I just want to edit it online and be sure its working before I move it from the folder to the main site

    • Ok. for now you can start working on a new database, but keep in mind this is a new installation so no data will be here but the RT sample data (if installed).

This is pretty basically we need to the following:
      1. Place new directory in your Web root directory for your new site
      2. Install Joomla

As for the database, you can either run all the sites from one database simply using alternative table prefixes or using separate databases for each site.

      Ok. lets start,
      1. Login to your cpanel - quick access is >>>> www.mysite.com/cpanel
      2. Create a new database (optional) or you can use the same database as your current site but use a different table prefix.

Instructions to create a new database
        Video Tutorial
      3. Login to your cpanel
      4. Click on MySql Database Wizard
      5. Follow instructions
      6. Save database and take a note on database name, user and password you will need this info later
      [/*]
    • Click on File Manager. see Fig-1A
    • Open the web root directory. See FIG 1-B
    • Create a new installation folder. See FIG 1-C
    • Verify you folder have been created
    • Download your desire RocketLauncher template and unzip all information in the folder you created on item 6.
    • Install Joomla Follow the installation instructions from RT but remember USE A DIFFERNET TABLE PREFIX OR USE A NEW DATABASE

      Then you should be good.

    • Ok, so far I'm good! Actually got it to run, and then had to change the php memory to actually load the site, but so far so good. I need to go thru and change the permissions on all the directories, but i'm getting used to that though i don't like it. I have to change everything to 0757 in order to be able to do anything and i'm not sure why :?:

Next problem, on the demo site, i'm getting this error at the very top:
RokGallery Module: The PHP PDO module is needed but not installed.
      - The PHP MySQL PDO driver is needed but not installed.
      - The PHP Sqlite PDO driver is needed but not installed.

Oh, and I forgot to say. Thank you so much for your time in this!
