Is RT going to add (again) K2 functionality into its themes?

I know K2 left the planet when version Joomla 1.6 and then 1.7 came out. K2 hadn't updated for a long while. Is it now safe to say K2 is fully updated and would go great inside of RT templates? I think so, and wonder if RT has any comment on this.
yes I know that we can add k2 now to any template but then going through all of the css editing would be a pain.
I am wondering if it is possible to get the 1.5 backend functionality back again?
